Since it's Halloween time, I was trying to get some update info on Tom Cruise's remake of THE WAR OF THE WORLDS but couldn't find anything. However, I did come across two interesting sci-fi movies due out in 2003: (1) DREAMCATCHER by Stephen King about commandos trying to stop a contagion from a crashed ufo in Maine. It stars Morgan Freeman and Tom Sizemore. (Freeman did this before with Dustin Hoffman in OUTBREAK?) (2) THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN--Queen Victoria seeks the aid of The Invisible Man, Dr. Jekyll, et al. to stop an upcoming world war. It stars Sean Connery (does that mean Queen Victoria also asks James Bond for help?).

LEAGUE I'm looking forward to, even though I'm not familiar at all with the comic book. In fact, I didn't even know there was a comic book until just a couple months ago when I first read about the movie. (Sean Connery will be playing Allan Quatermain.)

We saw some clips from DREAMCATCHER at the Fangoria convention in August, and it looked awful. The cinematography looked good and I'm sure the score(by James Newton Howard) will be good, but otherwise it looked like a really bad low-budget direct-to-video film. I'll pass.

What other sci-fi movies are coming up? I know there's STAR TREK: NEMESIS, which I'll definitely be seeing despite that lame-ass trailer that does nothing to help it. I don't expect to see Tom Cruise's WAR OF THE WORLDS for quite awhile. That just seems like a project that is going to spend a long time in development hell.
