Had to start a new "1776" thread to mention how the other day I borrowed from the library and watched the adaptations of the first three of John Jakes' Kent Family Chronicles novels, "The Bastard", "The Rebels" and "The Seekers." The reason why this should be of interest to all "1776" buffs is that in the first production, "The Bastard" William Daniels plays Samuel Adams, and in "The Rebels" Daniels plays John Adams again and even wears the same costume he wore in "1776". Daniels plays Adams differently in this production, showing off the more conservative side of his temperament in a scene where he and Jefferson differ on democracy vs. a republic (which is quite accurate), but he doesn't forget his "1776" roots in the gestures and mannerisms, and the way he just rolls out the words, "Mr. Jefferson."

It's too bad that Daniels' return to the part we'll always like him best for, is the only good thing about these films, which pale considerably before Jakes' novels. John Addison had a good score on "The Bastard" but Gerald Fried's music for the other two productions was very overly repetitive and got annoying after awhile.
