I was surprised to see that Rambo was returning....I thought Rambo IV not only showed that this anachronistic character (that's not a criticism) was past his prime, but also ended on a note that would have rounded off the saga nicely. But, it appears Rambo: Last Blood goes before the cameras on October, and is being directed again by Sly.

The title seems to hint (with a seldgehammer) that this WILL finally be it for John Rambo...but I have the same impending sense of dread that I did about Rambo IV, if I'm honest. I guess that turned out OK though....

I can't help but wonder if Stallone is in deep debt.
He keeps reworking those old success stories from the past.
He doesn't come up with anything NEW...

...or, he knows what people want and does what works...? I think he's quite a canny businessman...

I love the original FIRST BLOOD film (and score).
RAMBO II was comic book stuff, but very enjoyable comic book stuff (and I love that score too).
III wasn't so good (but the score was still great) and IV was better than I expected, but about as good/bad as III.
I think I could only get excited about a number 5 if Jerry Goldsmith was still alive.

It is going to that old well one too many, or two too many times.
This last Expendables did not do too well, hopefully that kills that franchise.

He could always hope for a Demolition Man 2, uh maybe not.

He's been talking about this one being the last one for a while. I'll be very surprised if Rambo doesn't die.

I'll also be very surprised if Brian Tyler doesn't get the job.

I really liked the last installment more than I expected.

If this (final?) film is in the same vein, count me in.

My friend suggested a title for this new one: Rambo 5 - South Bronx Sh*thole.

Thank goodness the movies weren't all made in the past couple of decades, or we'd have had Second Blood, Third Blood etc.

Here's a fascinating interview with author David Morrell on his first book, First Blood, and the resulting film franchise including the fourth film. It ends with an account of Sly's phone call to David's dying son.. moving stuff.

I really liked how the fourth one treated Johnny Boy as a slasher, a la Jason Voorhees. I'm hoping for more of that.

I really DON'T like how this series is titled.

First Blood
Rambo: First Blood Part II
Rambo III
Rambo
Rambo: Last Blood

Somebody needs to clean up that aisle. What's next: Penultimate Blood? The Last First? Rambo: First Rambo II Last Rambo? Rambo Part Rambo? Rambo the 13th: Rambo Takes Rambohattan? RamboCop? Rambo Brite and the Star Stealer?
