I've been on a David Newman binge this week, but when these two scores came on (courtesy of two great sounding promo's), I was reminded how jaw-droppingly brilliant parts of them are. The way Newman switches from achingly tender 'emotional' moments to huge orchestra and choir ACTION/THRILLER/HORROR music is just fantastic. His renditions and interpretations of the TV Scooby Doo theme are equally inspired, sometimes full-on and sometimes cleverly disguised. I adore his string quartet version in DOO 2. I've whittled both scores down to around 35 minutes each and I love every minute of them. SCOOBY 1 features the best renditions of the TV theme, whereas 2 feels BIGGER and more MOMENTOUS compared to the leaner DOO 1 score. Still, both are excellent examples of how great David Newman is at elevating (sometimes less than stellar) kiddie/comedy fare to higher levels of entertainment. I think I'm gonna play 'em again! Any other fans out there?
Count me in. I love both scores. Not as inventive as the 2 Newman Flintstones scores but the 2 Newman Scooby Doo scores are absolutely amazing examples of Newman`s craftsmanship. Unfortunately the 2 Newman Scooby Doo TV scores "Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins" and "Scooby-Doo! Curse of the Lake Monster" are low budget all synth versions of the original large orchestral film versions.
