We will start sending out the replacement BATMAN Disc 4 on Monday. In order to make sure there were no errors on this we opened up a copy of our old 2 cd set of BATMAN RETURNS and sent the plant the second disc out of that brand new factory sealed cd set. It was perfect then and it sounds perfect now. We do apologize for the bum master that went out for this box set. Some times shit happens and it costs you several grand in WEA manufacturing fees and shipping. smile

MV

Got mine today. Sounds amazing. Thanx MV for the replacement.

On another topic - What is the hidden track at the end of "Resurrection Choir" on the Passion CD? I was listening to it today and thought it was done, but then to my delight there was some more lovely music.

Thanks for flagging this.
Is it an alternate of sorts for one of the "Trailer Music" tracks?

The hidden track seems to be the full version of the "Trailer Music". The penultimate track on disc 2 is slightly edited down towards the end.

Talking about possible glitches on "Big Top Pee-Wee": why is track 14 ("Zsa Zsa/Happy Circus") so abruptly cut-off and leading into the percussion intro of track 15 ("Zsa Zsa's Delight")? This is a very arkward edit. "Happy Circus" runs several seconds longer on the old Arista-CD, without this arkward ending.

I just received this and noticed it immediately.

Not the end of the world though. I haven't seen the movie in a long time and I thought the abrupt end at first was intentional.

Love the music - lot of fun! smile

Mine's got popping all through disc 4, track 1, but I never got a notice about a replacement disc. Needless to say, I didn't get the replacement disc either. Are there still copies of it left?

Edit: Email sent. Hopefully I didn't miss out.

Just got my Batman set.
It has the glitches in Disc 4 and I sent an email.
But I wanted to address another thing that I don't know if it has been mentioned.
Is track 1 in Disc 1 the film version?
At exactly 1.30 there is a "wrong" note. (it's the 2nd note the 3rd time the 3-note motif plays - well the 1st time isn't heard so it's basically the 2nd time)
It should be an A, and it's almost an A#.

I just checked my Bluray, and the wrong note isn't there! The performance is right.
So, is this track an alternate version?

By the way, I just checked 1st track in Disc 2, and the performance is right too there (approx. at 1.29), and you can also hear the 1st statement of the 3-note motif as on the BLuray.
So maybe THIS is the film version?

I think Alternate #2 on disc 2 is the film version of the main titles, followed by the "drunken" beautiful dreamer hidden extra.

That's not correct. Part of the 'film version', however, was taken from this take.

Haha, just noticed that LLL placed an Easter Egg at the end of Resurrection Choir. How fitting, MV!

Listening to the new Batman I am presented with somewhat of a conundrum.

For the most part I would definitely say the new Batman release as a whole has overall better sound quality than the original release, but I guess I'm more so confused as to why some things have been gained but others lost. There is new clarity brought out and elements not heard before. But for example, Main Title-on the new release is luckily clip free now, but overall has more noticeable background noise... compared to the original there doesn't appear to be hardly any bass, and at 0:48 when it kicks off oddly the percussion is heavily dialed back here now. It just feels like the orchestra is further away in the new release. And similarly another example is during Shootout-on the new release seems to have lost the piano element at 2:53-3:02, but otherwise is much better here than the original.

I haven't listened and compared everything yet, but these are my first impressions. Mr. Bulk, thoughts?

Agreed that while there is more clarity and less clipping, the bass/reverb/punch/percussion or something is missing in La La's new mastering of batman in the Elfman batman 4 disc set. I think you described it well, saying that it sounds like the orchestra is further away. I appreciate that many prefer it this way, but I simply prefer the sound from La La's first release of Batman

Just purchased a copy of the Elfman "Batman" set and glad to have it! For those who have La-La's 2010 release, would you recommend trying to find a copy of that one as well? Or are the differences between the two releases not all that different?

Oh, they're different. A LOT DIFFERENT. It's practically one prime factor why they did this set to begin with. They found a much better source of the music for the 89 film and it completely blows the previous release out of the water. It's almost like asking if you should get the VHS release over the Blu-ray. There's really no reason to unless you're curious to hear how it sounded.

Gotcha, thanks! Helps too because the 2010 release goes for quite a bit on eBay anyway!
