It is an "on demand" item and available for a limited time.

Yeah, right.

You know, I really can't think of any other film score that has had such a multitude of pirate permutations. It must be one for the record books.

Considering the intrepidity of people like Lukas Kendall (and his colleagues in other reissue companies), the rights that would have to be negotiated in order to issue this title must be truly nightmarish in scope to account for its continuing absence.

I still remain optimistic that someone will eventually succeed.

I have it from the horse's mouth: it's being worked on. However, like it's been said, it is an enormously complicated task. (That's all I know, so don't ask about the sound quality or whatever).

That said, the Amazon link seems to be a boot of the Edel disc and various sources of Queen songs

Just discovering this score and WOW.

I'm guessing a decent release of this is still a pipe dream.

But from what I've heard, this is so, so good. Classic Kamen!

Out of curiosity I tried the link and….it’s gone.

Yes this is an awesome score and to hear that it’s being worked on, even though it’s probably years away, is fantastic news.

It's definitely a gem waiting to be unleashed on the world! The main theme is a classic, and the whole score features Kamen's trademark synth guitar:

Kamen's score probably works best as a suite, all the good stuff is there.

Obviously that opinion is subjective to the listener so from this listener in reply..no and no.!

I'd even like the Queen rendition of New York, New York.

Much like Flash Gordon and Ghostbusters, the songs and score worked perfectly in tandem in the film and would make a smashing combined release. Highlander was a perfect storm for me when I first saw it. I was in my melancholy phase when I rented the VHS and it hit me just right. Especially the scene where Connor says goodbye to the dying Heather as "Who Wants to Live Forever" is cranking.

But Kamen's score is beautifully uplifting in parts, especially the training scenes with Connery.

The series totally unable to recapture the spirit and feeling of the original and it really should have been a "one and done" film. Disclaimer: I never saw the TV series.

Yeah...I saw the sequels and tried the TV series, but...
"There Can Be Only One"
Much like you, my memory of seeing the film will always be unforgettable.
I was in Paris, for my 21st birthday, with a girlfriend, and we saw AFTER HOURS and HIGHLANDER in cinemas on the Champs Elysees.
I thoroughly enjoyed both films and HIGHLANDER was a real one-off movie.
Bonkers...but Brilliant.

Score AND Songs are tied to the fabric of the film.
There CAN'T Be Only One

wink

Indeed it's my opinion. The suites are a great listening experience, encapsulating the best of the score.

Love to hear the extended and film versions of the Queen material, though.

I'm the complete opposite. I'd love to hear the full Kamen music and none of the Queen music. I personally found Queen to be a bit ill-fitting and overrated in the film, and most of the songs have already been released on their albums anyway.

Interesting. The Queen music is a huge part of the film's appeal. The film itself isn't great, it doesn't make sense, but I do enjoy watching it because it's larger than life.

It's a pretty ridiculous film. I always loved how Sean Connery is Scottish and DOESN'T play the Scottish character, who is instead played by a French dude. The whole Terminator-esque out-of-time-traveller-in-a-trench-coat-on-the-mean-streets is just wonderful New Wave bliss, and who doesn't like seeing helicopter shots swooping around guys swinging swords on remote mountaintops?

Also, does anyone notice the parallels between Highlander and Outlander? Sweeping romance, Scottish Highlands, time traveling...

It sure is a weird film and on paper just shouldn’t work but…it does. The sometimes ropey acting, the Queen songs, the great visuals and Michael sensational score, it all comes together for a hugely enjoyable watch. I think thats why the others just don’t work. Lightning only struck once in this series. Michael’s HIGHLANDER score is great in the suites we all know with all the noticeable moments there as the previous poster rightly said, but the full thing is a great listen with all the little Kamen touches on display and the usually overlooked battle with the Kurgan music at the end. Its a crying shame that this just cant seem to get a release. If the original reason was they didnt want to impact sales of the Queen album, surely this isnt a thing after all these years. The score deserves a properly legit mastered release that does the sound justice. It would be nice if one of the labels could chime in and say what the real problem is.

I'm assuming it has to do with the complexity of rights related to Queen's album and how that was a completely separate entity from the film. Queen and Kamen did collaborate closely so there might be some rights issues associated with his music.

Just a guess.

Here's a couple videos that talk a little bit about the music and Queen's perspective on a soundtrack of the complete score vs. their music:

And this "making of" has a section starting at 1:49:40 that goes into the music a bit:
