A lot of great film music had his name at the top of the page.
It's tragic that we will never know what else he had inside him, just waiting to get out.

RIP.

A master. We won't see his like again. Rest in peace.

One of the most beloved, debated and discussed composer on the FSM board. In my daily life routine James Horner has been on my daily playback routine. His music was deeply stirring, emotionally uplifting and dramatic (when it needed to be). His music themes and cues which were at time quite long become easily absorbed and enjoyed. So its not strange that his music apart from its merits in terms of cinematic appeal also appealed to you whether you commuting in long drives, in your living room or the great outdoors, or when taking off in aircraft-His music was there! Simple, moving and apt. His music had presence and heart. There are tons of scores and output of his that we will continue to cherish and enjoy. Only recently I got his outstanding score of WOLF TOTEM, BLACK GOLD. And a few days ago I finally got LEGENDS OF THE FALL (which I was familiar with but had somehow missed) Today I will listen to that score for the first time knowing that it is an essential and cult classic score amongst his fans and it will be an envious moment relishing it for the first time.

RIP, Maestro.

It's very sad news. We keep losing them.
I've known his work for most of my life, and I think it's understandable to most of us how deeply their work is part of our lives.

I hope you made it to where you need to be sir.

Peace brother.

This is just awful. I feel terrible. I literally just out Searching For Bobby Fisher in iTunes and listened to Aliens the other day. frown

A tragic loss of one of those gifted composers whose music has filled me with joy and melancholy and spirited hope.

I just want to extend my love and thoughts. James has carried me thru thick and thin. Beginning with Krull and never to forget after...

Thank you kindly for all that you have done...xoxo

A terrible day for all of us. Just a few weeks ago I spent an afternoon watching all of his on-camera interviews on YouTube.

One of the all time greats.

RIP.

Shocked to hear this news. I won't be a hypocrite and pretend he was one of my favourite composers, nor that I didn't have an occasional harsh opinion of his music, but I've enjoyed a lot of it down the years, and had set the TiVo to record Enemy at the Gates this week because I appreciate the whole package, of which the score is a significant part.

The circumstances of his loss are tragic and perhaps senseless, and will cause a lot of pain to people both close to him and to those who didn't know him other than reflected in his music. My sympathy to all who are affected by this, and particular condolences of course to family and friends.

Finding it difficult to express myself. This man's music has meant so much to me for most of my life. Despite the frequent criticisms of his "borrowings," there can be no denying that his music worked dramatically. His melodies had a way of reaching deep within your soul and making you weep or scream or soar. Land Before Time, Krull, Braveheart, Aliens, Wrath of Khan, Glory, Legends of the Fall, Willow, Brainstorm, and, perhaps my personal favorite, The Rocketeer... The list goes on and on. The real kicker is that he could have gone on composing for another twenty years or more.

He will be sorely missed.

What sad news, James was always one of my favourite composers, Glory, Land Before Time, Legends of the Fall, Titanic, Avatar etc are among'st the most played soundtracks in my collection. He was an extremely gifted individual, and his loss will be greatly felt by a lot of people.

It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever known.

I´m devastated. He had so much more to give, but he got only a few opportunities during
last years. frown

Rest In Peace, James. We´ll always remember you.

Very saddened to hear this news. Two of the first film score CD's I ever bought were GNP Crescendo's Star Trek II and III. I played them endlessly back in the early nineties. Then I discovered "Krull", "Rocketeer" and many many more.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this time.

RIP Maestro, thank you for the music you made that lives far beyond the movies they were made for.
