As I like to do, when I find a series on IMDb that is missing the composer credits or has unsolved ones, I try finding the composer. A couple days ago I found the credits missing to this series and found it.
"Madigan", which I assume is based off the movie by the same name, is a series that centers around a hard-bitten older cop.
There were only six episodes, though I think it's more like the last season of "In the Heat of the Night" -- no "episodes" but TV movies lumped into a season, since each episode is TV movie length and not episodic length.
Some of the episodes take place in foreign locals like London and Lisbon.
All six episodes are gloriously scored by Dick De Benedictis (I've submitted it to IMDb).
Benedictis provides us with colorful, catchy, '70's scoring delights, with all the sounds you'd expect from that period and more, such as various kinds of shakers, bell tree, guiro, groovy triangle, congas, and more.
Each score is varied enough and has interesting variations within. And at times even uses the show's theme. In one or two episodes the theme is even re-worked.
It reminded me of something Doug said at the Intrada forum yesterday:
"There's literally just an endless amount of incredible music still to unlock from the vaults of all of the studios, and that's just with regards to TV."
There's just so much goodness from television scoring from even the 1970's alone, one could never exahust themsleves discovering all of it.
My estimation is the complete episode scores to all the episodes, would require two CD's. And the complete scores are worth releasing.

In the UK, these Madigan TV films were shown at - if I recall - irregular broadcasts, part of the Mystery Movie series, Tue and Thu evenings. From week to week we would see McMillan & Wife, Banacek, Columbo and a few others ... the broadcaster (ITV ?) did not seem to make a distonction. But there was a different feel to this short-lived Richard Widmark series, not so light-hearted as those others.
I'm not sure if I saw the film (which also starred Henry Fonda) before watching any of these TV films but, whatever, I did enjoy them. I can't recall the music, though.
The episode in London was fun ... I think there was some some location footage ... but, as usual, there were various give-aways which revealed the Hollywood genesis / budget limitations.

Interestingly enough, there was an actor in one episode with the last name Costa.
