Whenever I get like this, I play the superb album Harry & Tonto (still only on LP). And I reflect that Conti is now 75, and how lucky I am to have lived in the same decades as him. I remember picking up the LPs for Unmarried Woman, Uncle Joe Shannon & FIST. His music has enriched our lives. So glad that Conti was able to be unique and so successful with directors like Paul Mazursky, John Avildsen & Stallone.

That's a nice post.smileAnd you're right, but at the same time there are still so many great unreleased Conti scores. It's such a shame they're not being released.

When the BC titles from Varese have stopped, you know all hope is lost!
Bob Townson has been such a champion of his work, be thankful for all those great scores that have been released these years passed.
I feel the same way about composers like Lee Holdridge, David Newman and Cliff Eidelman, who have many great scores from the past unreleased.
But it's great to have the goodies we already have.
Best to concentrate on the stuff you have and enjoy them while you can.

Bill Conti's Nails was the answer a Varese quiz on Twitter today. They show a close up of a small section of cover art and ask for folks to guess the score.

Déjà vu (too bad most of the "clue" photos hosted by photobucket are no longer active).

Thought I'd make henry please by reporting this little discovery:

A pleasant orchestral score to a 1990 TV movie called "The Operation". There's also some light dramatic material here and there.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSFuDZuy1uA (NEW load as of January 6, 2020 -- highlight times may not line up)

Highlights:
  • 0:00 in.
  • 8:03 in.
  • 15:48 in.
  • 30:45 in. 33:00 could be used as an ending.
  • 43:01 in.
  • 44:20 in: also features some nice synth female vocals that blend well with the strings and piano and for the images on screen. The cue turns dark and some light tension is used.
  • 46:12 in.
  • 49:14 in.
  • 54:14 in.
  • 56:54 in.
  • 1:07:15 in. Technically probably part of the cue before it, but there was a pause and I liked it at this time stamp. 1:11:47 in is like an extension of it, only more dramatic. 1:16:41 in could be the dramatic last part of it.
  • About 1:24:15 in.
  • 1:27:22 in: a long cue that builds of tension to a suspenseful and simple ending. There's a short additional bit after a few seconds lull.
  • 1:32:15 in: the end credits.

That's the majority of the score. I can honestly say I'd like to own this.

The whole thing is kind of over-the-top and a little too melodramatic at times. It's a TV movie -- that's the best I can say about it. It's written rather decently, though.

I do, however, like the detective who appears around 1:20:00 in; gives me a sort of Columbo vibe. I think I might have enjoyed seeing that character again in another film.

I'm really happy with the Varese batch today, DRACULA especially. But at the same time I'm frustrated with the overwhelming lack of unreleased Conti.

Intrada have said one is coming in 2018, though whether it's unreleased is another matter.

The Terry Fox Story would be my most wanted unreleased Bill Conti score.
I can't think of any others right now.
And Henry, be thankful you ain't a Michael Convertino fan wink

Yes, I'm hoping it's an unreleased. That would make me very happy!
