KeepMoving Records announces five new scores on four CDs, ranging multiple genres and continents while retaining one essential element - all scores are great, symphonic masterpieces that recall the Golden days of the genre, keeping alive the old spark of masterful works. We're happy to have some old friends back, but are also excited to bring out a previously unreleased gem by and Oscar-winning composer. The line-up includes the following titles:
- Set in Canada, The Snow Walker is an expansive and majestic score paying tribute to the Northern wilderness as it underscores the struggles of a bush pilot and an Inuit girl teaching him the ways of his people. The score is written by Academy Award-winning composer Mychael Danna (The Ice Storm, Life of Pi) and Paul Intson, who incorporate elements of Inuit music to make this score as reflective of the setting as possible.
- Following our release of Merlin's Apprentice, we're releasing another great Hallmark score:Stanislas Syrewicz's Stranded, written for the Charles Beeson directed adaptation of The Swiss Family Robinson. The score has an old-fashioned charm of classic swashbuckler scores mixed with a few electronic additions, great percussion work and hints of Asian music representing the exotic locations.
- Yuri Poteyenko's Fort Ross underscores a Russian adventure film inspired by the history of Russia's most important colony in California. Following the exploits of time traveling journalists and pirates, Poteyenko revisits his classics pirate-themed video game scores (Sea Dogs, Age of Pirates: Caribbean Tales) as well as pays tribute to unavoidable musical heroes like Hans Zimmer and John Williams.
- Our last CD is another Yuri Poteyenko release, pairing up two of his more recent works from Russian arthouse cinema. The Forbiddance is a tragic love story set in the time of World War II while Earthly Eden is an adaptation of Aleksandr Vampilov's classic play Duck Hunt. Both scores feature a smaller, more intimate symphonic compositions that nicely compliment each other as well as the doomed romances they were written for.
Each CD comes with 8-page booklets featuring stills and photos from the productions as well as liner notes by Gergely Hubai based upon original interviews with the involved filmmakers - composers and directors alike.

Directed by Yuriy Moroz, Fort Ross is a Russian adventure film based around the history of Russia's most important colony in California. The story shifts between St. Petersburg in 1825, Fort Ross in 1820 and modern times as a group of Russian journalists travel to San Francisco. Thanks to an iPhone struck by lightning, the group gets transported back to the 19th century where they immediately witness the hardships of Russian colonists. While battling a motley group of pirates and forging an alliance with the local Pomo Indians, the people of Fort Ross turn out to be real adventurers who can stand their own ground, even though all they wish for is to be left on their own and prosper.
The score for Fort Ross was written by Yuri Poteyenko, one of the busiest Russian film composers. He graduated from the Moscow Conservatory in 1986, his majors were composing (class of N. N. Sidelnikov) and choral conducting (class of the professor Lyashko). Some of his most widely seen works are Timur Bekmambetov’s Night Watch and Day Watch and the haunting Shostakovich-inspired score to Leningrad. Other scores by Yuri Poteyenko available on our label include Sea Dogs, Age of Pirates: Caribbean Tales, Wind Man, Georg, The Irony of Fate 2 and The Salamander Key.
During the composition of Fort Ross, Poteyenko revisits his classics pirate-themed video game scores (Sea Dogs, Age of Pirates: Caribbean Tales) as well as one of his own personal favorites, Isaak Dunayevsky score for the Soviet production of Captain Grant’s Family. The lush, symphonic swashbuckler score pays equal parts homage to Hans Zimmer's Pirates of the Caribbean for the marauders as well as John Williams whimsical family adventures for the journalists' adventures. Recorded in Moscow, the score recruits all the top talents of the local film music scene who contributed to Poteyenko's past successes. The CD comes with 8-page liner notes by Gergely Hubai discussing the film and the score.

The Forbiddance and Earthly Eden are two of the most recent projects of Yuri Poteyenko who paired both works on one CD. The Forbiddance is a tragic love story set in the time of World War II when a young novice fells in love with an Italian soldier. Upon the arrival of the Russian army, they must seek refugee on a deserted island on Lake Ladoga... Earthly Eden is an adaption of Aleksandr Vampilov's classic play Duck Hunt, transported into modern times as a young engineer named Zilov sees his life crumble around him with only the titular hunt bringing some relief to his conflicts...

The Forbiddance marks the composer's fourth collaboration with Alexei Kozlov for whom he devised the beautiful 'Love and Faith' theme which is used several times throghout the film. The CD also includes unused highlights such as 'The Truth' which makes its debut here. Earthly Eden strikes an even darker tone with its portrayal of Zilov, one of the best known characters of contemporary Russian theatre. Randing from the steamy erotic saxophone solo of 'A Romantic Encounter' to the morose loneliness of 'Fatum', Poteyenko perfectly captures all aspects of a disintegrating relationship. The CD comes with 12-page liner notes by Gergely Hubai discussing both films and scores.

Directed by Charles Beeson, Stranded is a stylish and entertaining two-part television adaptation of The Swiss Family Robinson, originally produced for Hallmark. The 2002 version starred actor Liam Cunningham, Brana Bajic, Emma Pierson, Andrew Lee Potts, Neil Newbon and Jesse Spencer as the self-reliant family who discover an exotic paradise while being threatened by pirates. Shot on real Southeast Asian locations on Thailand, the film features not only family drama, but lots of swashbuckling action, especially in its second half when the pirates stage a raid on the family's property.
The score for Stranded was written by Polish-born composer Stanislas Syrewicz, a veteran of film and television scoring. Syrewicz studied at the Warsaw Academy of Music, but he was also awarded a second diploma in stage directing from the Academy of Theatre. The composer’s first television score was written for Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson, an American/Polish co-production. Syrewicz and his family left Poland in the early ‘80s. The young composer was signed by Island Records where worked with performers like Marianne Faithful, Jon Anderson and Diane Keaton. Since the 1980s, Syrewicz has built up a strong portfolio of television credits that include programs like In the Company of Whales for Discovery, Stalin for HBO or Crime and Punishment for NBC. His feature movies credits includes collaborations with such directors as John Frankenheimer, Ken Russell, Ferdinand Fairfax and Julian Fellowes.
With so many things going on in the film ranging from the storm to the rebuilding of civilization and its intersecting plotlines involving pirates, Syrewicz chose the idea of recovery as his central theme, gradually building towards the epic finale as the family clashes with the marauders, defending not only their home, but their family integrity as well. The score has an old-fashioned charm mixed with a few electronic additions, great percussion work and hints of Asian music representing the exotic locations. The CD comes with 8-page liner notes by Gergely Hubai discussing the film and the score based on original interviews with the director and the composer.

Written and directed by Charles Martin Smith, The Snow Walker is based on the fiction of Canadian author and environmental activist Farley Mowat (of Never Cry Wolf fame). The story follows the trials of veteran bush pilot Charlie Halliday (Barry Pepper) and Kanaalaq (Annabella Piugattuk), a sick Inuit girl who needs medical attention. When they crash land in the middle of the wild, the tables turn and Kanaalaq becomes the one who provides help and gives survival tips to her companion, going as far as sacrificing herself in the process...
The score is a collaboration between Oscar-winning composer Mychael Danna and Paul Intson who assisted Danna in dozens of scores in various capacities. As Danna is best-known for incorporating elements of ethnic music into his scores from his gamelan-inspired work on The Ice Storm to Armenian music in Ararat or Indian influences in his Academy Award winning Life of Pi, it was only natural that the two composers would try to place elements of Inuit music into this score, including throat singing, percussion and the sonoran (a Native American flute).
These exotic additions nicely blend in with the rich symphonic underscoring reserved for the Canadian wilderness whose majesty both enchants and scares Charlie. Ranging from the tribal savagery of "Mosquito" and "Caribou Hunt" to the expansive "Charlie in the Wilderness" which plays without dialogue in the film, The Snow Walker is an epic tableau of the Northwestern Territories that should delight every fan of Danna's ethnically-inspired compositions. The CD comes with 8-page liner notes by Gergely Hubai discussing the film and the score based on original interviews with both composers.
