I noticed just looking around in Tidal to see what they had for music that they actually have a soundtracks genre you can browse, which is not something I see as a genre to select on Spotify. Right now I'm still in my 3 months of Spotify for $.99 but I'm tempted to give Tidal a shot especially if they make it easier to find new release soundtracks. Has anyone tried either the lossy or lossless version they offer?
I converted yesterday on an ad that offered 3 month for 3 bucks and have now 3 months to check it out. Of course a lot of film music, I find there is a lot of Morricone there for me to discover, but as expected few specialty releases, more "mainstream". Still, if I would start with music today, I probably wouldn't start buying and collecting stuff. And for casual to advanced music listeners, it's probably all they ever need and want. But of course, I'm happy I got a few CDs and don't have to rely on it. For film music, there is still lots these services don't have.
I just bought a Cambridge Audio streamer (mostly to play ripped CDs from my NAS) and it came with Tidal built into the menus, so I have it a whirl and there's a nice selection of recent soundtracks on there. All of Terence Blanchard's Perry Mason episode scores are on there, for example. FLAC format. "Hi-Fi" and "Master" quality options too. Listening to Sally Potter's The Roads Not Taken right now. Highly recommended as streaming services go.
The Cambridge Audio CXNv2 has magnificent sound BTW.
