Last winter, composer John Paesano recorded his score to the inspirational independent football film My All American. Directed by Angelo Pizzo and based on the true story of Freddie Steinmark, the scoring sessions took place at the Sony Scoring Stage and ScoringSessions.com is thrilled to bring our readers photos from the sessions!
It really can be a case of Time/Place/Mood when listening to film scores, can't it (especially for the first time)? I gave this a spin about...2 years ago and it didn't really register with me. Just played it again now and it was a completely different experience. Take the latter day Goldsmith sound, add in a dash of Mark Isham 'inspirational sports drama' scoring and mix it with Paesano's own style and it's a nice throw-back score pitted against the moans and drones of modern day ambient scoring. Very nice indeed.
I still love this score, and return to it every so often. I have highlights in a playlist along with selections from Beck's WE ARE MARSHALL, BaƱos' MIRACLE SEASON, Goldsmith's RUDY and HOOSIERS, and a favorite trailer track, "Touchdown Jesus," from X-Ray Dog. Rousing stuff!
