With 2016's A Monster Calls, Velázquez continues his collaboration with director J.A. Bayona (El orfanato, Lo imposible). In Quartet's recent Fernando Velázquez Concert Suites release (which also contains his score from Bayona's early short film El hombre Esponja), Bayona speaks of their collaboration, and touches on the score for A Monster Calls: "It will be a simple, exciting but quiet score."
It's one of my most anticipated scores of 2016 - up until Crimson Peak, El orfanato went unchallenged as my favorite Velázquez score, and the book on which this movie is based broke my heart, so I'm hoping for something special here.
Thank you for info. I will look into the book. Sounds like another dream match-up. Lo Impossible is my top score from Maestro. Anxiously awaiting arrival of Quartet's Concert Suites CD-should be here this week.
In collaboration with Back Lot Music, Universal Pictures and Focus Features, we are very excited to announce the soundtrack album of the new collaboration between J.A Bayona and Fernando Velázquez! A really stunning score!
That IS lovely. The book was beautiful, it left me in tears, and my hope is the movie is just as wonderful. It seems to have gotten lots of wildly positive reviews so far. It's the project I'm most looking forward to over the next few months.
Another modern masterpiece! I am so anxious to see to hear the music with the film. Velazquez is the man! I mean the "End Credits" how freaking beautiful is this music!!!!!
