Someone posted some interesting differences between the LP, blu-ray and dvd versions. I'm relaying it below.

The LP tracks "Bunny" and "Chocolates for Bunny" were alternates. The first track is used in the Twilight Time bluray and isolated channel, while the 2nd track is in the Columbia dvd. Also, there are two cues on the dvd soundtrack which are interrupted on the blu-ray. The cues starting at about 10 minutes (missing 15 seconds) and 26 minutes (missing 45 seconds).

Missing from the TT isolated audio (but in both dvd/blu-ray films) is a score cue at about 15 minutes, and the Zombies cue "Nothing's Changed"(oddly subbing in an edited track of "Remember Me"). But it includes an unused score cue at 24 minutes, and a 2nd version of Zombies track "Just out of reach."

Thanks. When you say "alternates," do you mean alternate takes of the same music, or alternate music that was composed for those scenes?

The latter scenario - alternates in terms of their placement in the film. The runtime for each is significantly different so they arent easily interchangeable, but you wont find both tracks on the same movie release. The shorter cue wasnt cut up and used in pieces elsewhere on the blu-ray. There's no "technical" info about the soundtrack in the Twilight Time booklet. Maybe something in the audio commentary.

Thanks again. So one more question, do you think that most of the Paul Glass film music ended up on the LP (and CD), or is there some stuff in the DVD or blu-ray that is not on the LP?

I got e-mail about this (I don't want to say from whom unless he allow me to mention him, 'cause it's private correspondence).

But if think it's not harm anyone if I mention just one phrase

The film has about 10 minutes of more music than the album, but the TT
blu isolated audio is missing a minute (involves 3 different scenes).

Plus he describe all about that "alternates" on blu-ray/dvd/CD...

The majority of the film score and Zombies music is on the 40 minute LP/CD album (with the alternate track not in the film), so the average fan should continue to be happy with it.

So I created a playlist of the just the Paul Glass music and spent some time with it. It runs 32 minutes, perfect length for an album.

I don't know why this music didn't grab me more when I first heard it. I like the how it alternates between the bittersweet melodic music and the more dissonant passages.

Happy to have this on CD. I wish the superior mono mixes of the Zombies tracks were included instead of the weaker stereo mixes, but if you have the Zombie Heaven box set, they are easily replaced.

Not to get sidetracked, but that "Zombie Heaven" box set is fantastic, isn't it?

It really is. It is amazing that they weren't bigger at the time. Maybe because they looked like geeks? wink Time has made up for that. "Odessey and Oracle" is routinely recognized as one of the greatest rock/pop albums of the 1960s.

Yes, "Odessey and Oracle" is an outstanding Zombies LP. If you don't have it already, I highly recommend you seek out the mono mix, which was released (and easy to find) on CD as an import. (I'm assuming you're American, OnyaBirri.) If memory serves, the label is Beat Records, but I could be wrong. (I don't have the CD handy.) The mono mix sounds warmer and fuller to my ears. Better balanced between the vocals and instruments as well....

Back on topic: I just got my shipping notice and should receive my "Bunny Lake" soundtrack album within the next few days. Really looking forward to it!! smile

I think 33 minutes is more perfect!

Interesting tidbit: The mono album master is lost. The mono CD contains alternate, rejected mono mixes that were done along the way. The only way to hear the original mono mix is track down the original vinyl. Be prepared to pay!

Interesting, OnyaBirri.... and surprising that Abbey Road Studios (if it was indeed them) would be so careless with a master tape. (I've also heard the original mono master tape to The Doors' first album is missing. I don't know which studio would be responsible for keeping that, though.)

What's more interesting is that the label paid for the mono mix, but the Zombies had to pay out of pocket to mix it in stereo! If anything, you'd think that the tape paid for by the label for would have survived.

At any rate, I'm sure they used mixes that had at one point been labeled "best" until they improved them, so they may not be radically different. Then again, I never heard a mono vinyl copy.

I got mine about a week and a half ago and am very happy to finally add it to my CD soundtrack collection.

As for the movie itself, it's a favorite sixties film for me. I only rented it on DVD from Netflixs a decade ago, but when Twilight Time released it on Blu-ray, it was a must-have. Although nearly $30, the blu-ray transfer is far superior to the old DVD one. It's a stunning black & white Panavision image. The commentary track provided is also one of the better ones, loaded with interesting trivia. The score is also isolated, but having it now on CD is better.

I've only just discovered that this score has been available as a Sony pressed-on-demand CD for nearly 2 years. It's certainly cheaper than the Intrada issue, particularly for UK buyers. I just wondered if anyone had purchased it and what the sound is like.

I gather the Reel Time CD is a vinyl rip so hopefully the Sony issue would be from the master tapes?
