And yet according to Robert Townson on FB recently, he was working on a western follow up to Frontiers with Jerry before he passed away, so he must have been later persuaded.

I wonder if such a Goldsmith at Fox Western Collection would have included the great finale cue he wrote for Flaming Star...just listened to it again and it really is superb work; wish he'd been able to write the entire score.

That would be a nice bonus cue for a release of a Goldsmith score from the Fox catalogue. I wonder if there may be problems with the rights because of the release of the songs from the movie on RCA?

I agree that would be nice; I personally even liked the rest of the score enough that I’d buy the whole thing on CD if it were released...Jerry’s finale cue was the highlight however.

It made a nice bonus at the beginning of our new Goldsmith Odyssey podcast...if you’re curious to hear the piece (albeit in podcast quality audio only; for lossless you’ll have to buy the Twilight Time Blu-ray!) give this a listen:

It’s the final feature film work of Jerry’s we’ll be covering for the next year or so, as we are about to hit his Epic TV Year 1961 (the most prolific year of his output).

We did consider doing a Goldsmith at Fox Western Collection at one point but were not quick enough to lock up the rights to Rio Conchos.

Well, almost 2.5 years later and even though their plans for a Goldsmith at Fox Western Collection never came to fruition, La-La Land Records still found a place to premiere (an extended version of) "Pacer's Farewell" from Flaming Star on CD, as part of their new general Goldsmith at 20th series! Wonderful bonus paired with Jerry's first full score for the studio, The Stripper, done a couple years later:
