Not that good of a movie by any means, I only cared to see it to witness Nic Cage's spastic performance. I got precisely what I expected out of that, but the other aspects of this film is.... eh?
I like the music well enough though, wouldn't mind seeing a release. It's MGM now right?
What do you mean it's not a good movie? the meme of this film is still being used today and I usually find the laughing gif https://geometrydash-free.com
I finally watched this because of its reputation vis-à-vis Nic Cage’s outsized performance. Compared to the rest of his career, it’s almost a median performance on the Nic Cage ham-o-meter! He’s gone off the charts many times since then. But it’s still a hoot to watch.
I felt déjà vu watching Cage menace María Conchita Alonso (his secretary) in the basement hallway. It recalled The Shining when Jack Nicholson stalks Shelly Duvall up the staircase. Both men are at the nadir of their mental deterioration, both of them goad their armed victims with feral glee, and both actors go savagely over the top. But Alonso and Duvall bring things back to earth with their terrified reactions.
What a score this movie has! It’s as full-throated as Cage’s acting. It’s a pity the composer (Colin Towns) is underrepresented and the movie was such a flop. It would make a great double-disc set with Ira Newborn’s Innocent Blood, another forgotten vampire romp with a strong music voice.
Until then, however, someone has ripped the music from the DVD and put it on YouTube.
