I purchased the score to this Korean film a few weeks ago, and since I received it I don't think a single day has gone by that I haven't been listening to it. It's easily the best blind buy I've made in ages, and is probably among my top five favorite scores of the last couple years.

The musical director for the film was Yeong-wook Jo, while the score was composed by Dae-song Hong, Sora Yun and Hye-won Jo. Dae-song Hong composed the bulk of the score, just as he did with Kundo: Age of the Rampant a couple years back.

While the score to Kundo was done in the style of a Spaghetti Western, this score more closely resembles something by David Julyan or Howard Shore. Like Julyan's score to Insomnia, the string writing is very evocative of the snowy landscapes where the film is set. The music for the tiger attacks is also appropriately furious, but the biggest surprise is the gentle and lovely music for boys choir and orchestra spread throughout the score. In fact, these gorgeous passages almost outnumber the darker moments, which is a bit surprising, but not something I mind at all.

With a total run-time of 100 minutes across two CDs I was originally thinking that the score was going to be a bit on the long side, but half the time when I finish listening to the whole thing I already want to spin it again. And if even if you don't want to listen to two CDs worth of music, the first disc by itself is a great 49 minute representation of the score, right down to ending with my favorite track.

So if anyone out there is looking to take a chance on a new score, you might want to check this one out. You may just be as impressed as I was!

This is a fantastic score. Loved the movie too. I like how the soundtrack gives the listener two different routes. Disc One: Short and Sweet. Disc Two: Longer, Darker. I have to admit, it's pretty cool that import scores are becoming a bit easier to buy. I purchased mine from DeepDiscount.
