I appreciated the cues which are heard when a scene is established. They reminded me of the kind of thing Williams did in Star Wars (1977). I liked the downbeat take on The Avengers theme, too.
The film itself was pretty damned good, despite the frequent failed attempts at humor. Beautiful looking film, and Josh Brolin/CGI Thanos was a tremendous performance. Glad I still had some Captain America Civil War Kleenex handy for that ending!
After listening to this on repeat for almost the entirety of last week, I can honestly say that it has improved to my ears. Like most Silvestri scores, I find that I only enjoy it once I can pick out the themes, sub-themes and recurring motifs. "Forge"and "Infinity War" are by far my favorite tracks, and I'm picking up a strong Judge Dredd feel to the score. I was not immediately pleased with the dark, less-than-heroic nature of the score, but I totally get that now having seen the film. If you passed this up after a listen or two like I did, give it a few more chances. I did a 180 on this score.

Good post. I guess everyone else has devoured this score's carcass and moved on to the next one...but I felt that you needed to know some of us appreciate posts like this.
Give us a friggin chance, will ya! It ain't even OUT on CD yet* and there are plenty of us luddites who still enjoy their music via the physical format. I thought it supported the film very well but didn't hear that much that I wanted to replay away from it, unlike his score to RP1, which fairly bristled with 80's Silvestri goodness. But it was a much darker film and the score reflected that. Glad to hear it rewards repeated listens. So it will be part of a future hearing.
Yeah it gets better with each rotation. I’ve purchased the ultimate iTunes version and the physical CD. Pretty much been listening to this and Ready Player One on repeat.

I am going crazy with rehearsals schedules...I haven't been able to see the movie (though I fell in love hard with Thor Ragnarok just recently). And I haven't checked out the score...
Silvestri isn't exactly one of my fave composers (though I forthrightly admit being mostly ignorant as to his repetoire). I really like the Captain America/Copland thing he did for First Avenger, but not much else. Probably a composer I'll look into more in the future (though he has a long line of Golden and Silver ages to wait behind).
From what I've heard this is THE superhero movie on a par with the like of Superman and Civil War...don't want to miss it.

You know that new sound you've been looking for?? Well, listen to THIS:
Definitely caught that Blown Away reference, and loved every second of it! In regard to the chronological order of tracks, having only seen the film once, which comes first, "Charge" or "Forge"?

I think if you move ‘Old Tech’ to the end and ‘The Avengers’ between ‘Undying Fidelity’ and ‘No More Surprises’ then the album is all in film order, can anyone else confirm?
Fantastic and thorough review, Jon! "Infinity War" is far from Silvestri's best, but it's still a fun listen and leaps and bounds better than the average summer blockbuster score of late. I re-sequenced the album into chronological order, and as per usual, it's a better listen. This is truly a score that I didn't appreciate on first listen, but I'm glad I gave it a second chance. And we're incredibly lucky to have almost the entire score!
