There is no mystery as to who wrote the beautiful opening theme. I got the movie out from my collection. It's there in the opening credits . Music by Leigh Harline . Song for Julie London by Bobby Troup. Ah Cody, I'm still not convinced Harline wrote the opening theme. The credits say: "Song 'Man of the West' by Bobby Troup!" The song on YouTube that Julie London sings does not sound like a "Man of the West" song. It sounds like a quiet "lounge" song she was so famous for. Harline may have well composed the theme, but I want to see proof in black and white! Cody, does your copy of the film actually say: "Song for Julie London by Bobby Troup"? The film clip on YouTube says: "Song 'Man of the West' by Bobby Troup." That's what I have too on my VHS copy of the film. Were the main title credits changed over the years? PFK,my friend, it's not my aim to convince you of anything. It's what I believe that counts. It says ,"Music by Leigh Harline". Below that it says," Song Man of the West by Bobby Troup." Now PFK,please tell me if Bobby Troup has written any other western music in his career. Do you know of anything, even remotely related to any other western, written by Bobby Troup ? Would you say the music of THE HANGING TREE should be credited to Jerry Livingston instead of Max Steiner ? Of course not ! Surely you are not going to tell me Max Steiner adapted Jerry Livingston's music . Remember this also. Bobby Troup's song from MAN OF THE WEST that was never used in the final film bares no relation to Leigh Harline's opening theme. I have to give credit where credit is due and that has to go to Leigh Harline for MAN OF THE WEST and Max Steiner for THE HANGING TREE.
