If you are referring to "Rock Around the Rock Pile," yes, Troup wrote that as well. Yeah!!! I got the movie out from my collection. It's there in the opening credits . Music by Leigh Harline . Song for Julie London by Bobby Troup. Ah Cody, I'm still not convinced Harline wrote the opening theme. The credits say: "Song 'Man of the West' by Bobby Troup!" The song on YouTube that Julie London sings does not sound like a "Man of the West" song. It sounds like a quiet "lounge" song she was so famous for. Harline may have well composed the theme, but I want to see proof in black and white! Cody, does your copy of the film actually say: "Song for Julie London by Bobby Troup"? The film clip on YouTube says: "Song 'Man of the West' by Bobby Troup." That's what I have too on my VHS copy of the film. I thought Cooper was excellent in the title role but looked too old by now. I think too the (apparent) commercial failure of the film was in 1958 Gary Cooper fans wanted to see a "lighter" western such as Cooper's VERA CRUZ. MAN OF THE WEST was relentlessly dark and downbeat. Music editor: Eve Newman. Just speculating here. At the time of the 1958 film, Bobby Troup was Julie London's manager. (They would not marry until 1959.) Troup may have worked it into London's contract that in order to get her, he would be allowed to write a title song for the film, which, used or not, would still be credited in the film. Good promotion for both London and the film. You might well be correct Bob. I just noticed the movie poster for MAN OF THE WEST said: " Hear Julie London sing 'Man of the West.' " I can't believe this "lounge" song would be the main title music? Looks like cooler heads prevailed and Leigh Harline must have written the beautiful and moving title music. I do like the Julie London song very much though. And as you speculated, Bobby Troup still had his name in the title credits.
