Scott, you are right - the trailer is just terrific. Sort of hard to believe I was so excited to see a Star Trek movie again after the truly embarrassing Star Trek V. But that trailer did it, and I've always been delighted with the film (and even learned to love the final nadir).
But as someone who grew up with Star Trek (I was five when it premiered, and ate it up in syndication), the teaser trailer was perfect too. Because I knew this was to be the last voyage with the original crew. It still brings a little lump to my throat.
If ever there was a fandom that earned a fannish teaser trailer, it's Trekkies!

The narration went astray with its description of over the top fan worship, but I was thrilled to see original series imagery on the big screen. The movies seemed like an undoing of the original look, and this trailer came across as a kind of big-league validation.
You think of all the love that fans gave this series, all the writers who wanted to write for it, all the real life teachers, scientists, and astronauts who were inspired by Star Trek, yeah. This teaser was a love letter and I will gladly love it to death.
I mean, it was clearly made out of love for the series. I cannot say the same thing for any of the current Star Trek show runners, especially when the showrunner for Picard openly said they make it out of spite.

That's in line with my feelings. As a lifelong fan I've always been aware of how we're seen by the "normals." "Smelly fat virgins wearing Spock ears at conventions living in mom's basement" etc. That narration run at a con would be fine. At the beginning of Cool World or Regarding Henry, it's an eye roller to me.
