Dream Theater ~ Distance Over Time (2019)

I popped into a Barnes & Noble store on my way home from work today and picked up this new CD by Dream Theater--my introduction to the band, believe it or not--and it's freaking phenomenal. I've listened to it three times already and it gets better each time, especially with headphones since the full immersion experience helps reveal the intricate vocal and instrumental nuances layered throughout, masterfully balancing darkness and light. Highly recommended if you're in the mood for some heavy, polished, virtuoso progressive rock with thoughtful lyrics and catchy choruses that dare you not to sing along.

Despite being a prog rock fan, I never really got into more contemporary, "wild" variants -- like Rush or Dream Theater. I like some 80s/90s Yes, but that's about it.

Glad to see you are enjoying the new Dream Theater Josh!
If you like this one, check out the Self Titled album and The Astonishing. The new album has hints of both releases. The self titled is similarly heavy while the Astonishing is a metal opera so it feels like a musical at times. But it has some lovely themes and is also quite enjoyable. I'll be seeing them live on March 20th, this week at San Diego's Balboa Theater.
