Want to ask this before I contact Intrada, but did anyone else get an oddly munched-up booklet? Mine has all sorts of folds and creases on the pages. Not just the covers. Intrada is always excellent at replacing these, but was first curious to see if it was just my bad luck.

Mine arrived in perfect condition so it sounds like you may have just been unlucky with a bad booklet.

Could anyone tell me which cues from the original album have material that is not among the "unedited and additional original score cues" please?

It lasted barely over a year. I thought this score was selling well.

I don't know where you got that data from, but a score from Intrada going out of print can mean it sold well, or sold badly, or sold well initially but sales slowed to a trickle in the last few months, or that they're nearly out of stock on hand and it's not worth a repress, or that the license is expiring.

Hmm, I've been on the fence regarding this release. Guess I don't have much time to make a decision.

If you like vintage Elfman there's a lot to like here, especially getting to hear different mixes/arrangements of a lot of the stuff that's familiar on the original album suite-tracks. There isn't anything really huge missing off the original album, but if you like the feel of that musical world the expansion seems to let it breathe more and be a longer more complete experience...

I agree that the original album should be sufficient for most people. The Intrada expansion is very well done, and all the slight variations are interesting if you love the score, but it is not unrepetitive.

Due to the way it's ordered/arranged, it is very interesting to study, but not very interesting to listen to from top to bottom. It's maybe the first time that I plan on (eventually) making my own playlist of something resembling film order, or at least a tighter listening experience.

The music is very good though. Elfman in his prime - Tess's theme/love theme is an early career highlight of Elfman's, IMO.

But if you want Dick and have been waiting to grab it, now's the time!

I love that we're living in the age of so many wonderful expansions. One of the reasons I have enjoyed this weird hobby of score collecting for the past 30 years is because I love having the best possible listening experience of a score represented on CD. And for me personally, the VALUE of this Dick Tracy set as a pure listening experience doesn't justify the cost based on the wonky track ordering and so much apparent repetition. I love the movie, I love the original score CD, and if it was half the cost I'd probably consider it... but I'm okay with letting this one slip into out-of-print status.

But THANK YOU to Intrada for continuing to make so many killer releases happen year after year... Robin Hood arrived a few days ago and it's everything I always hoped for! Looking forward to the fourth Cosmos CD!

This is why I've sort of put off buying this release. Seems more like a collection of recordings sessions and less a musical presentation.

It *is* a very frustrating presentation, but given the nature of how it was implemented in the movie by Beatty, I do believe it's the best Intrada could do. Thankfully, I rip all my CDs to MP3 (to use in Google Play Music), so I was able to rearrange them the best I could using this list

http://chrono-score.blogspot.com/2012/06/dick-tracy.html

Now, whether or not it's totally accurate, I don't know. I'm going to go with the idea that it is just for peace of mind. And even with this, the tracks that are split or only use snippets were left untouched and in complete form on my playlist. As for the rest of the non-original album cues, I just created an "Archival Music" album playlist.

I have a semi-mystic faith in Intrada that they have carefully considered each presentation and that each one fits the particular work in question the best that it can. And that faith hasn't been shaken yet. This DICK TRACY release was unusual to be sure, but it's also a totally unique stroll through the brambles of Elfman's early creative process and for that I love it. I also love it because the music is just so damn good.
