We watched this film last week and it brought back to me how truly wonderful this film is. Like The Sand Pebbles, it is tough to watch due to the subject matter. However, the scenery, acting and of course the score is breathtaking. I truly believe that Doyle's main theme may be one of his best. I can also compare it to the Sand Pebbles in length but both captivate my attention for the entire film. My daughter found subtitles tedious but I didn't notice them at all. Patrick Doyle is already high on my list and this score is at the top as well.
I need to revisit this score soon. I remember being impressed by Doyle's music in its construction but I can't recall a note of it now. My alma mater showed a 35mm print of the film a few years back and it was an impressive looking film for sure.
edw, I love Doyle's music, but I've not heard this score nor seen the movie. I'm going to start scrolling through my various channels to see if it will be playing soon. Sounds very good.

The BLU-RAY has this week just been released in UK by Studio Canal in a new 4K restoration master ..............the picture quality is 10/10 +++++.............and the music score and sound are also 10/10+++++.........

I would rather have subtitles than dubbing.
I totally agree. Had it been dubbing, I would have taken a pass.

Dubbing is only good for the cheese factor, like watching Italian cop movies from the '70s.
Incidentally, we took our preteen daughter and her friend to see Shin Godzilla in the theater and warned them in advance that it was subtitled, but they didn't balk and were totally immersed the entire time. I was amazed.

What's so funny Josh is that as I was writing this comment, I was picturing those Italia movies in my head along with the old Japanese monster films.
I warned my daughter about the subs before the movie and we have watched others with subs before. She explained that it took away from the beautiful scenery for her in this particular movie. I am impressed by your preteen's immersion.
