J.D. Salinger (The Catcher in the Rye) biopic coming later this year. Very curious to hear what McCreary can do with a drama flick -- he works so often on speculative genre fare.

Bear is a composer of great talent IMHO. There isn't a genre he couldn't do. I'm a fan of all sorts of composers. It is amazing what versatility they all possess.
I just a advance copy of the score tonight and given it's a holiday weekend, I took the time to play it..
Without question it's one of the best things I've heard in the last couple of years, a mixture of wonderful orchestra score, some solo piano and swing jazz.
Bear has really done a great job here, the score also have some very nice touches that pay homage to both James Horner and Elmer Bernstein.
When it comes out, I'd urge everyone to pick this one up, you'll be richly rewarded.
The digital version it appears becomes available on Sept 8th (This Friday)
Sounds interesting... perhaps the change of genre will be good for him and he would do something interesting for a change... BUT... still no news about the CD release?
so this is a pretty stellar outing. bear mentioned a physical release coming at some point but to those that can't hold off this is a pretty strong showing. i though stuff like 10 cloverfield lane worked great in the movie but never really soared like his tv work. pleased to say that's no issue here. gorgeous piano but complex upbeat temps at the same time. still digesting it all but felt the need to comment!

Couldn't agree more, an absolutely terrific effort. I knew it would have plenty of quality about it (it is Bear McCreary after all) but it was even better than expected. I guess those who enjoy his more unusual styles and sonorities might find it a bit more mainstream than usual, but it just shows how incredibly versatile he is. Super.
A very nice score! In fact, I'd say this is the best score for the worst-titled film I've ever heard! (Yes, it beats Don Davis's score for "Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever.")
