Dear Basketball is now set to become an animated short film, and Bryant is collaborating with some Hollywood legends on the project. ... Five-time Academy Award winner and 50-time Academy Award nominee John Williams will write the score for the film, according to Variety. Bryant has long been a fan of Williams, and even has a portrait of him in his office.

The company is now making a three-to-five minute film based on the 'Dear Basketball' poem that Bryant used to announce his retirement, led by longtime Disney animator Glen Keane and featuring music from John Williams.

Glen Keane and Kobe Bryant Collab ‘Dear Basketball’ To Premiere At Tribeca
Based on a poem written in 2015 by NBA player Kobe Bryant to announce his retirement from the game, the project is produced by Bryant’s Kobe Studios, Believe Entertainment Group, and Sports Illustrated, which will eventually screen the film on SI.com.

Besides the involvement of former Disney legend Glen Keane, five-time Academy Award-winning composer John Williams (Jaws, E.T., Jurassic Park, Star Wars) is providing the score for Dear Basketball.

The 2017 Tribeca Film Festival takes place in New York City April 19-30.

Below is the first still released from the project:

While I have no interest in basketball whatsoever, I am quite interested in this short. Glen Keane is one of the greatest animators of his generation, so his work is always worth a look, and that art sample is gorgeous. A John Williams score is just icing on the cake! I wonder if it will be turned into a concert piece and maybe get a recording somewhere? One can dream.

Lookin' good. I've been looking forward to this. Basketball is one of the few sports that are popular in the US, that I also like (both to play and watch).

Wait, John Williams, darling of Massachusetts, formerly of the Boston Pops, is writing music for a LAKER?

I'm very looking forward to the music score of this, much more than any future Star Wars or Indiana Jones score.
This sounds like something new and different.

I just read the letter on which this short is based.
Well, in my mind I was hearing "Born on the 4th of July" music with that amazing string writing.
Let's see what Williams will do..

Wow, beautiful stuff. It seems the clip cuts off just as the music is about to swell into a gorgeous crescendo. I hope this gets a release!

A cd including an HD video of the film on DVD, would be great!
(i guess, this wouldn't get its own bluray)
