Does anyone have a recording of this? It was a vocal track to the love theme sung by Audrey Hepburn and was on the old snot-green bootleg soundtrack LP back in the day -- but hasn't shown up on any of the legit soundtrack releases!

What makes you think it was sung by Audrey Hepburn?

It is clear that John Barry recorded a backing track for a song, but he never worked on the song itself. I think the lyrics and vocal were added without Barry's involvement. It appeared on the 1976 LP but you're right, never since.

Cheers

Thought she was credited with the vocal on the boot but maybe it's my failing memory.

How do i get a copy of this? Thought it was quite lovely actually...

I don't believe anyone was listed as the vocalist and, as you can tell, it wasn't Audrey.

Did anyone ever identify either the singer or the lyricist?

The lyrics are here:

Nothing about who did write the lyrics.
Sometimes John Barry did write the lyrics himself, - so maybe.....?

As I understand it, someone else added the lyrics to the music, and that Barry disapproved of the resulting song. Whether that's because he wasn't involved, or because he disliked the song itself, I don't know.

The Barry scholars on the forum may have better info.

It's actually quite a lovely track. I also thought it was sung by Audrey until I heard it again recently -- think there must have been some credit on the Boot LP SOMEWHERE because I'm not the only one who had the impression it was her voice.

FYI the original rejected Michel Legrand score for ROBIN AND MARIAN is available and is definitely worth a listen!
