Note from Roger Feigelson on Facebook:

Poltergeist II is back in stock! We engaged Doug Schwartz to do a little remastering around the larger choral passages on the analog tracks (Disc 2). If anyone has this already and is interested, for a limited time we'll make Disc 2 available with your next order with Intrada.[/startquote]

Great news! Ordered.

I have been critical in the past with how those choral passages sounded on the analog mixes. There was definitely room for improvement. I have faith in Doug. smile

Ive never really seen this movie or heard the score, is it a worthy follow up to #1? (But then again, is anything?)

This score is one of my absolute favorites—easily in my top ten scores by Goldsmith.

Whenever I think of what a sequel score should embody, this one almost immediately comes to mind. It's impressively original, and I’ve always loved the addition of the electronics and new themes.

I might even hold the film itself in higher regard than most, though I agree that the ending felt rushed and somewhat anticlimactic. Regardless, anytime this score is mentioned or gets a new release, it’s guaranteed to bring a smile to my face. It’s truly a classic—perhaps not as iconic as the powerhouse original, but it has certainly earned its place as one over time. Plus, it’s aged remarkably well, electronics and all.

I recall there being some "fuss" at the time between Intrada and Kritzerland in terms of how the analog tapes sounded - but I can't remember the details. And I held onto the Kritzerland as well as the Intrada. Was it the choral tracks specifically?

There was a feisty debate between Bruce and Doug on the Intrada forum, which is now barely functional and missing a lot of posts. Still, a lot of Doug’s comments appear to have survived:

It was contentious until he actually heard the CD - then he apologized.

After I bought the Kritzerland edition which I found extremely rewarding as a listening experience. A new 3CD set appeared from intrada. Seriously, I never felt the need to even open the seal on that one. But I did compile the entire debate onto a document to fully understand the full merits of both the releases. Need to check my files again. I think their were two separate threads on it? One at Intrada (As posted above) and this one here at FSM.

I got the Varèse Sarabande LP, the Varèse Sarabande Deluxe, and the Kritzerland 2CD set of this release, so I never bothered to pick up the Intrada 3CD set. I mean, I like the score, but I think I'm quite well set with POLTERGEIST II.

I have all of them, call me crazy. but it‘s Goldsmith. Poltergeist II always has a special place in my heart. The great score, not the film.

That’s understandable. We always tend to buy albums to which we are fully connected with. In my case it’s SUPERMAN . I have all iterations.

I had the Intrada cassette, the 30-minute Intrada CD, the identical 30-minute Varese CD (because back then I liked the red spines!), the Varese DeLuxe, and the Kritzerland 2-disc. Personally I think I've bought it enough times!
