I've been playing through this set again recently, in bits and pieces here and there, thanks to this revived thread.
I'd mainly concentrated on the Chris Beck stuff previously, which was the main calling card to me from the series, but I'm paying more attention to discs 3 and 4 and some of the Tom Wander stuff is really nice too.
I'm gonna pay more attention to the Rob Duncan stuff this week too.
Lovely stuff.

His Chosen score is some of my favorite! So glad LLL included ALL of it!

DaveM: Its been so interesting and fun reading your little Buffy adventure!

It has been interesting to follow DaveM's journey. I rewatched all the seasons in the past few months. Still love the series. I wasn't looking forward to rewatching season 6, but I did like it better than I did originally. I realized that season 6 just wasn't about Willow's addiction to witchcraft. Others had addictions like Dawn to stealing and Buffy to Spike. It had more layers than I previously noticed. I do love Once More With feeling.
I guess Seasons 2, 3, 5 and 7 are my favorites.

Viewers who liked Buffy also enjoyed Veronica Mars. I sure did.

I'd like to watch the whole series again someday.
Last watched it when our 3 girls (nieces) were growing up (they're late 20s/early 30s now).
Just played The Weight Of The World tracks by Wander and those dreamy/ethereal cues for inside Buffy's mind and the Willow/Spike scenes are just gorgeous.

Just a reminder that there were many threads about Buffy while the show was airing.

Here is one:

Another way to look at season six is that it show cased how Buffy wasn't so caught up in her own little world and just going by the motions to certain degrees, that she failed to see her friends and family around her were falling apart.

Ron, that thread brought back memories. We had several great Buffy threads that talked about each episode. I miss Cooper and MWruger.

Yep. I miss your insights, too!!

i sometimes revisit all those threads because they truly covered all the individual episodes, their scores and the story lines.

Now go do Angel! razz

Already started watching Angel. Only E1 so far but it's good to hear Chris Beck's music again big grin

But now about the LLL Collection. My 19th post in this thread and I can FINALLY talk about that beauty.
75% of the CDs are perfectly arranged. It flows nicely from one episode to the next. It works as a single CD listen but also the set as a whole.

I was at first sceptical about the Suites on CD2 (except those ones on the OMWF ost) but they turned out great. All of them. I like how this set is in episodic order but in the episode the cues are a bit shuffled. The best way to sequence a TV score release imo.

CD4, while still good, is it not as great as 1-3. I always prefer highlights from multiple episodes over one complete score. Most of the Chosen music is really good but there's so much unreleased S6 & 7 music that I would've prefered.

Carter Burwells score has two or three nice cues but again... so much S6 & 7... that could have been there instead... Or that Walter Murphy cue at the end of 1x12.

Actually, there's a lot S6 music on this set. "Willow Takes Control" litterally got spammed into Season 6 big grin

Angel. Cool Series. The evil Spike was back for one episode that was a followup to some early S4 Buffy episode. While watching Buffy 4 I thought about also watching Angel simultaniasly, but dicided against it because Buffy builded it's season plot and Angel will most likely also have one and I didn't want to focus on two different shows at once.

I love the intro theme. I think it's better than Buffy's. And Christophe Beck's score is great. Here some highlights I picked up for Episodes 1-4:

1x01:
-The pre-Intro fight
~26:00 Tina dies
~40:00 Russel flies

1x03:
-Angel in the sunlight

there was more but these are the ones I would like see on an score release the most.

Due to my rescore resulting in rewatching Season 1 I picked some Walter Murphy highlights as well. Here they are for Episodes 1-6:

1x01:
00:00 The Prophecy
03:24 Buffy's Dream

1x02:
25:48 My Blood Is Your Blood

1x05:
35:25 Final Fight

1x06:
04:22 getting possessed

I was actually really surprised with Murphy's 1x06 score. I got kinda annoyed by it because its always the same but thie "getting possessed" moment was actually really cool. Especially the low bass drone at 05:21.

More Angel highlights:

1x05
had two or three nice moments in Cordelias first night

1x08
21:12 Buffy/Angel love theme in major
39:37 Buffy/Angel theme

1x09
18:05 (cue starts earlier but the cool part starts here) Doyle sees dead people
39:51 (cue starts earlier but the cool part starts here) Doyles sacrifice

1x11
30.30 that georgeos montage cue

Imho, S1 of Angel is better than S5-7 of Buffy. The dialoges are hilarious: The one 1x03 with Oz and Angel, ALL sensitivity lines 1x06 and every word from Cordelia is utterly brilliant.

I really didn't expect Doyles death in 1x09. That was a total suprise. Also for the editor because the actor is still present in the 1x10 intro credits.

In 1x08 at 15:16 and 15:21 is a boommike or something we should'nt see on the left. But Angel (unlike Buffy) seems to produced in the 16:9 aspect ratio. Like Buffy I watch Angel on Disney+ but Angel didnt seem to get the """"""""remaster"""""""" treatment as Buffy whith the weird picture cropping and absolutely no color correction.

I've got a theory:
about the Buffy/Angel theme(s)

I've noticed three different themes throu out Buffy S2 & 3:

The "Open Your Eyes" theme, the "Spike My Boy (why is this cue named that way???)"/"Dreaming Of" theme and the one that was used from Amends to Gradiuation Day, Part 2 CD2, Track 8, at 03:10. All these themes using the same flute kinda instrument. It's just barely a theme and more a motif. I know there is another one in Graduation Day (CD2, Track 8, at 2:45, played on oboe) but I have no idea how it works so I ignore it.

Here my theory:
The "Open Your Eyes" theme is the Buffy/Angel relationship as is. She's the Vampire Slayer in love with a Vampire and he can't love her back because he would loose his soul.

The "Dreaming Of" theme is the theme for the relationship that could've been if both where normal people. It appeared only in dreaming sequences of them (Innocence at 26:18 and Amends at 21:59)

I hoped that we would get more "dreaming of" material in Angel 1x08 because it would perfectly fit here. But instead we got another new piano theme. It was most likely too difficult to adapt for this scene.

Considering buying this set with the upcoming restock, samples sound good! Is there anything missing from this set that is on the old score album from Rounder Records?

From the Rounder CD you need to keep the track:

5. Moment Of Happiness (From "Innocence")

This is more an alternate version of the LLL track "Spike My Boy" (which is the film version).
The title "Spike My Boy" makes no sense in the LLL box. It has nothing to do with that scene, lol! So I have renamed it to "Moment Of Happiness" and then tagged the track from the Rounder CD as "Moment of Happiness (Alternate)" smile

Thank you for all this! I'm on the fence about dishing out for the Rounder release cause it fetches a somewhat high price on eBay, but we'll see. I assume the album, "Once More, With Feeling" is a stand alone release?

No problem!

The one track on the Rounder release is a stunning version of the Buffy/Angel love theme! I would have bought a CD just to have it, but then again, I am obsessed with this love theme (its the theme that got me into score in general) so I might not be the right person to listen to! haha! But the Once More With Feeling OST is a stand alone release, yes. You wont find any of the music from this episode anywhere else, except the bonus suites from The Gift, Hush and Restless smile

Finished Angel S1.

Here's the music I liked (Europe DVD timecodes)
1x17
-10:58 alone montage
-28:18 rebecca wants to be a vampire

1x18/19
-the two flashback scenes featuring a beautiful Cello

I noticed that most of the action music from 1x20 - 1x22 was directly copied from Buffy's "Hush", "Graduation Day" and one other episode.

S2 started great with the karaoke Demon and continued to be better than S1 so far. I loved the past-sequences (not only the Darla ones but also the Hotel flashbacks in 2x02) and Darla is handled really well in generell. I thought she would get the Spike treatment and becomes one of the good ones (I'm still sure this will happen at one point) but like I said, so far great.

The music, now by Robert Kral, is surprisingly similar to Chris Beck's. I like it. In particular the flashback scenes and the moment in "The Trial" when Angel destroys the set at the end of the episode (minute 38 or so).

Angel season 2 is imo the best season!
The second episode is my favorite episode from the show, and the score is amazing! Surprised none of it was featured on the score release back in the days!

And I absolutely love Darla's theme! Very haunting and beautiful (and sensual)!

There is a score release for Angel? I learned that searching for the music is not the best idea while still watching a show because of spoilers. The LLL Buffy tracklist gave more away than I wanted: "Buffy Dies", "Spike and Buffy"...

"Darla's Theme" was one of the YT videos I stumbled upon while researching for my rescore and really loved it.

Yeah a 1 CD release back in 2005. Its really great! But yes, some of the track titles may be spoilers! Beware!
I would wait till after you're done with the show wink

LLL did plan a box set for Angel, but sadly it fell through frown

That Darla suite you found is probably my suite! I took all the Darla stuff and made it into one track wink
