Very sorry to hear this. I had the honor of interviewing him about his concert arrangement of his score for DEXTER several years ago. Great man, and a great composer. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. RIP.
What awful news. Only fifty-nine. We gave him his first soundtrack release on Bay Cities - Children of the Night - he was a terrific composer and a great guy.
Very tragic news. He was John Scott's neighbor here in LA and I had been mulling over asking John to make an introduction; I wish I had decided to do so some time back. I love Licht's early, thematic orchestral work and always wished he'd be given a shot at writing more music like in later on down the line. He was very talented indeed:
I always enjoyed his horror scoring, he brought class to low budget films, kept the orchestra alive. I just re-read his excellent interview with Michael Schelle in his book 'The Score' a few weeks ago, recommend you guys have a look - it's a great piece & he came across intelligent & humble. It's always sad when one of our small ilk passes on. -Sean
Very saddened by this news. I was lucky to meet both Daniel and Christopher Young, I believe at a film music seminar at UCLA in 1993 or another event like that. I was doing a play in Burbank at the time and invited them and they came with their wives. They were both very nice to me and each brought me a couple of their CDs. Daniel brought me CHILDREN OF THE CORN II and another of his and I believe Chris brought me a couple of his promos. I can't remember if they signed them for me, but for some reason I think Daniel did sign COTC II. Really nice and pleasant guys. I guess they had been good friends, seemed so at the time.
My sincere condolences go out to Maestro Licht's family, friends and Chris Young. Daniel had a unique voice in film music and was a wonderful composer.
Sad to hear this. I remember his name well from my early film score exploring days in the 90s, although I never really gave him a proper chance. I guess now's a good a time as any to do so. I very much considered him a proponent of the "delicious darkness", and an heir -- of sorts -- of Chris Young.

Sad to hear this. I loved his work on Children of the Corn 2 and Bad Moon.
Sad news indeed. Those links above from bobbengan recall a time when James Horner, Chris Young and Mr Licht were allowed to pen lovely, bittersweet and melodic Main Titles and Love Themes and incorporate them amongst their horror rumblings. And all the better they were for it. Good night Sir.
I think my favourite from him is "Thinner", what a delicious score!
Rest In Peace.
That was the wonderful score that brought him to my attention, too. I was just wondering the other day what else he might have done. How very sad he died so relatively young. I hope his life was a happy one.
