Since the previous threads about his scores didn't get that much attention, perhaps it will be easier to just keep everything in this single thread...

I have also just launched this little fan site... which hopefully might bring him some more attention.

Martin Phipps has just begun recording his new score earlier today.
Something special to look forward to in 2018 for sure! smile

HARRY BROWN was masterful. Very underrated composer.

I LOVE Martin Phipps and he is insanely under-rated. His War and Peace is masterful. It was his Virgin Queene that originally made me fall in love.

Virgin Queen is a beauty!
I think the first time I've noticed his work was through North and South miniseries. Especially the finale of the 2nd episode is just amazing (I've seen hell).

Speaking of Virgin Queen in case you haven't got his VICTORIA you should give that one a chance. It was finally released on CD as well with the premiere of the 2nd season and also incorporates The Medieval Babes.

Unfortunately he was only involved with the pilot and the main theme, which is adapted by Ruth Barrett in all following episodes, therefore the tracks included on the CD are not as variable as might have been if he would be scoring the entire series.

Either way you can check the Showreel for several clips from all of his scores including a couple unreleased ones.

and finished... details regarding 10 officially available scores online - including credits (unfortunately rather sparse), tracklists, purchase links, samples and more...
Best accessible through "list view" of the filmography... since the links are not visible in any way throught "the gallery view"...
Perhaps I should just stick to the list and forget the posters??

Next: Fernando Velázquez.

Yes I listened to Victoria and it is a shame it's not a little more substantial and eclectic but another gorgeous collab with the Mediaeval Baebes (who I love anyway).

We've discussed Martin Phipps' music on BBC's WALLANDER in this thread:

Where the hell were YOU, Lokutus? Huh? Where? wink

Well... I certainly followed that thread... BUT since I never seen any episode and there isn't any release of the score to listen to I can't really comment or participate in the way the others (who have watched the series) can. smile

My favorite Martin Phipps score is sadly unreleased: the music he wrote for the Sense & Sensibility miniseries is just gorgeous. I'm a pretty big Patrick Doyle fan but this ravishing score just blows his out of the water!

Lack of releases of his many BBC scores is very disappointing - Sense and Sensibility sounds beautiful and I actually discovered him through his work on NORTH AND SOUTH. At least 2 cues from that one are included in the showreel.

Martin Phipps is one of those composer I stumbled upon by accident. THE CROWN was quite impressive but listening to his vigorous scores to VIRGIN QUEEN, WAR AND PEACE or BRIGHTON ROCK one can hear his unique compositional style even better. To bad only few of his scores are released on CD. In my book he should be up there with the A-list composers…

Phipps is great. Love BRIGHTON ROCK, THE VIRGIN QUEEN and VICTORIA. He oozes class.

Yes, I forgot VICTORIA. A great score, indeed.

Just seen Oliver Twist with my wife and - wow, that was somehow unexpected, but hugely enjoyable!

Anybody know about a CD release?
Which other scores are out there and recommended by you?
