Creature Features and La La Land Records soar into the musical world of tomorrow with a celebration of the deluxe, two-CD release of Ed Shearmur’s score to SKY CAPTAIN AND THE WORLD OF TOMORROW!
Filmmaker Kerry Conran revolutionized the special effects universe with this exciting and colorfully vivid salute to the super scientific flying daredevils of yesteryear, for which Shearmur composed a gloriously symphonic score that captured the film’s thrill-a-minute cliffhangers and wonders.
We're just as excited to have the team of Kerry Conran and Ed Shearmur join us for a special panel discussion hosted by soundtrack liner note writer Daniel Schweiger, celebrating this ageless sci-fi fan favorite.
Stay tuned for more guests to be announced!
Join us on Saturday, September 30th at 2PM, with a signing of the new CD and other titles by Shearmur to follow the discussion. Purchase of the “Sky Captain” album is required for admission. And if you can’t jet to the world of Burbank, signed CDs are available for pre-order at http://creaturefeatures.com/shop/cds/skycaptain/.
We look forward to signaling this long-awaited release of the movie that turned the serials of yesterday into the look, and music, of the future!
Love the movie and love the score. Proved to me (after the horrible Star Wars prequels) that filming with extensive green screen didn't actually have to result in something terrible, as long as you have good actors having fun with a fun script. This movie really captured the old adventure serial feel in its own unique way. A fun throwback, with an unabashedly old fashioned orchestral score. Bravo, LLL!
I actually quite like the version of OTR on the existing soundtrack. I have to disagree about the quality of the acting though. Much as I enjoyed the look and feel of the film, I felt the script and acting weren't very good at all.
However, I have a soft spot for the score so this one is most likely a purchase for me.
Biggest roblem with the movie, now I think about it, how did Polly go through the whole thing without realising the lens cap of her camera was on?
I think it's only that final scene on the water where Polly's lens cap was on. And you sure are conservative with your spoilers! (That's good though: better safe than sorry. I've had films that only just came out in the past year ruined with casual mentions of major characters' deaths in completely unrelated discussions. How's that for lack of internet tact?)
Erik Woods posted this in the other old thread on this score:
"I also heard that Shearmur composed a conert suite version of the love theme for the end credits but was never used. That would be something I would like to hear."
