DAMN YOU JIM PHELPS, THIS JUST BROKE ME UP! I guess I tear- up easier the older I've gotten, but this was just so genuine and unrehearsed, it got to me. I haven't seen any of the films, but when I lived in New York, I ran into Matthew Modine more times than I can remember. That Jack Lemmon clip of his sparing with George C. Scott, really makes me want to see this version as the only other version is the 1957 film. Thanks for posting this Jim.
I miss Jack Lemmon. I miss George C. Scott. I miss actors of that caliber who never become parodies of themselves.
I believe TNT aired the GG back then. I remember watching it live and being quite moved by Ving's kind gesture. I was surprised that it was not well remembered at all.
Rhames was magnificent as Don King...absolutely magnificent.
It reminds me of when F. Murray Abraham genuflected in front of Geraldine Page after presenting her the Oscar. Don't doubt the sincerity of him and Rhames an iota. Sometimes the spirit is moved, ya know?

The Oscar book mentions someone (Jessica Lange?) rolling their eyes when F. Murray said that.
