For my money, pretty enjoyable although surprisingly more similar to the original than either of the Menken remakes (particularly Aladdin where the songs and score are both quite different to the original, arrangements wise), but the expansion of the original score tracks is pretty solid. My biggest gripe is including The Lion Sleeps Tonight which was sort of a throwaway joke in the original but seems totally unnecessary to include it here, it really takes me out of the film and score. Random query... is the opening vocal from Circle of Life the recording from the original? I honestly can't detect any difference between them (mixing aside). The actual song is clearly a new performance but the very opening is scarily similar leading me to think it's just the original edited into the new performance.

My review of the score for the new THE LION KING, for anyone who's interested: https://moviemusicuk.us/2019/07/26/the-lion-king-hans-zimmer/ Jon I'm perplexed. I thought Z wasn't a ' real' composer. Don't the haters keep telling us he just ' noodles', that his scores are ' soundscapes', . Isn't it true that Zimmer doesn't write complex scores with strong themes and motifs? Don't his collaborators do all the work? Is it all a dream? Brm Ps nice review!

The Mullin Mulligan

I saw the movie today, and I actually think that whomever wrote Hans Zimmer's music for the film did an outstanding job. I mean, I like what the people who wrote Hans Zimmer's music for the 1994 original did as well, but I felt that the uncredited army of ghostwriters and arrangers found innovative ways to modernize and update the sound without really losing touch of the magic that the original team of ghostwriters and arrangers brought to Hans Zimmer's earlier score. Zimmer actually credited the people who worked on the score on his website. I think you are referring to the Marco Beltrami, Brian Tyler, and all the other composers who fans like to pretend like they wrote every note of their scores. Beltrami also gives credit to his additional composers.

Ignore the ignorant trolls. Oh come on, Mullin's post was freaking hilarious! It's gold Jerry, gold! And I like the score too. Sorry. The Zimmer bashing fails to amuse.me. Not " gold"; OLD.
