Warner Archives have just announced for early 2018 their release of the 1959 movie The Hanging Tree on Blu Ray.
Max Steiner provided the score which had no official release on cd I think ?
May be Ray Faiola knows the answer.

Students do not understand the true meaning of these types of thesis writing. They simply reflect their means of achieving decent grades, but in reality, this is a very daunting task.https://idealthesis.com

I sure hope some label will issue Max's THE HANGING TREE. It's a colorful western score and my number 1 Max Steiner most wanted. Of course I'll buy any new Steiner CDs!

Ray hasn't posted any denial; so perhaps there is hope. Perhaps WB wants the blu-ray out first.

I think Ray wrote earlier he couldnt talk about the releases until okayed by lawyers. I dont know if that applies to him discussing isolated music tracks on pending blu-ray releases.

My interest is in a CD release, but has it been confirmed that the upcoming Blu-Ray will have isolated music tracks ? I am totally aware of the lawyer situation. I just felt a denial of it being THE HANGING TREE would not step on anyone's toes.

PFK : I Don't think so.
I Have a lot of Blu-Ray's from Warner Archives about 40 but so far no isolated music tracks.
Several Twilight Time Blu-Ray's contains isolated music.

While I don't think it will affect the chances of an isolated score appearing on Hanging Tree's Blu-Ray, the WAC Blu for Auntie Mame has an isolated score listed among its bonus features (though I think it's just a port over from the DVD).

Today finally the Blu- Ray of the Hanging Tree arrived over here in the Netherlands.
And what a beauty it is ,the scenery in glorious technicolor and the music of Max Steiner.
As expected earlier no isolated music track but the music suites fine by the movie.
Not to much music but surely it's enough for a first release on cd.
Let's keep our Golden Age fingers cross that a label will release it ..... Ray ?

Always wondered why this never got a regular release since the Livingston/David song hit the charts and was nominated for an Oscar. Of course the idea of combining a song with the score in 1959 was just coming into it's own.

I just saw THE HANGING TREE on TV. The film was directed by Delmer Daves, and the score was by Max Steiner

In much the same way Hitchcock connected with Bernard Herrmann in the late 1950's/early 1960s, Delmer Daves latched onto Steiner. Listen to A SUMMER PLACE, PARRISH, SUSAN SLADE, SPENCER'S MOUNTAIN. or YOUNGBLOODE HAWKE.

As with almost all of the scores Steiner composed for films directed by Delmer Daves in the late 1950's/early 1960's, THE HANGING TREE contains a very memorable score. I know there were a couple of cuts recorded by Kenneth Alwyn on a wonderful CD collection of rare Steiner stuff on a CD on the Scanlon label, but this is truly one of Steiner's late 1950's scores (along with ESCAPADE IN JAPAN and ALL MINE TO GIVE), that deserve a release of the original tracks or a new re-recording (although THAT probably will never happen).

I just hope someone appreciates the later Steiner stuff enough to get it out there in some way...

HELL ON FRISCO BAY
ESCAPADE IN JAPAN
ALL MINE TO GIVE
THE HANGING TREE (Daves)
A MAJORITY OF ONE
PARRISH (Original tracks) (Daves)
SPENCER'S MOUNTAIN (Daves)
ROME ADVENTURE (Original tracks) (Daves)
SUSAN SLADE (Daves)
YOUNGBLOOD HAWKE (Daves)

And yes, even TWO ON A GULLOTINE

Jim

I would buy any one of those scores Jim, for sure. From about 1955 to 1965 Steiner's scores had a different sound to them, perhaps because of the films themselves. I hope we see a few of them in the future.

"Hell on Frisco Bay" has wall to wall music, and so over-scored (ie inappropriate) that it's laughable. You could probably still enjoy the music on it's own, but it's pretty annoying in the film. Not sure you'd want it after watching it.

How did you know that bag of cash is under my bed? big grin
