Why, on the promo label CD, does the main title of THE MAN WHO HAUNTED HIMSELF have the sound effects on it?
I'm guessing because it was the only source available. This was one of the last of his promos to come out. I guess somebody was searching for a decent master. The blu-ray has a nice isolated track. A proper CD release is one of my last holy grails. Love this film/score.
I have to say, if we could get an official and remastered release of just one Michael J. Lewis score, THE MAN WHO HAUNTED HIMSELF would get my vote.
Does the isolated track on the Blu-Ray have the main title clean?
Yes. It has the complete score without any sound FX, though many cues have volume dips where dialog would be placed. And it's not an isolated track synced up to the film, it's a "music suite" available as a separate option.
For fans of Cyrano check out Anthony Burgess's autobiographies where he devotes some pages to the musical and working with Lewis, who he sort of compliments and disses at the same time.
I just streamed THE MAN WHO HAUNTED HIMSELF on the Kanopy app and it was an interesting film. I'd love a better and longer release of this score but I'm wondering if you could find a label willing and able to do it.
I was going to make a post about this very topic! I've recently gotten into his scores and I'm shocked we haven't had any expanded, remastered releases.

In an interview done in the last year, he mentioned a lot of his scores haven't been released because labels just haven't looked into it. Interesting.
I lurve Mj Lewis stuff. Man who haunted himself really stood out for me and off the tv i recorded 11 harrowhouse and a few others, early/mid 70s. Particularly liked Sphinx (and lesley anne down looked amazing in that) and the relentless evil beat of the Medusa Touch was very disturbing.
