Everything now set for April sessions with the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Nic Raine for:

The complete scores for (The Horror of) DRACULA - James Bernard ... at 45 minutes, and the complete THE CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN - James Bernard at 32 minutes...will nicely just get one CD

New scores reconstructed from Jimmy's orginal sketches by Leigh Phillips...who is not only a Goldsmith and Rozsa expert...but loves the Hammer Horror genre.

Can't wait to sink my teeth into this!

And just think...with all the great sound and modern production of a modern re-recording.

I want to investigate those scores more, so also thanks to Fitzy and company for giving me more amazing music to investigate! smile

James, I thank you from the bottom of my heart, on behalf of myself and all lovers of this music. This is seriously wonderful.

Thank you.

While not quite Hammer, Bernard's score for the 1922 silent classic Nosferatu (one of his last) is very much in the same vein as his Hammer scores, Wagner (TCM used to show the film with this score, but last October they switched it out for the most recent restoration with the original Hans Erdmann score).

And I had the privilege of working on NOSFERATU with Jimmy while I was still at Silva .... lovely man

I have Nosferatu (and most of the best Hammer) on dvd, so I'm going to have a ball rewatching that again today!

Hammer is what I loved back in the 70s as a very young 'un. Christopher Lee is immortal...

Out of curiosity, which score does your copy of Nosferatu have? I ask because, Public Domain copies aside, most of the legal releases of the film have the Erdmann score, which I find to be inferior to Bernard's score. As far as I know, the only release of the film with the Bernard score is the BFI edition.

I’m just reading James Bernard’s terrific biography by David Huckvale right now and can’t wait for this new recording!
Hope it’s out before Halloween ??
Many thanks James

Wonderful news. This will be ordered the moment it's available. Am very familiar with the Dracula score, and can hear it in my head as I type. There's much power in the driving beat of the opening titles. The last version of Curse I saw had less than perfect sound especially for the music so it will be nice to hear that in excellent condition.

As for Christopher Lee, I will forever kick myself for missing the chance to meet the big guy at a book signing because of a hangover. It was in the wake of the work for both Peter Jackson and George Lucas, and I declined the chance thinking he would be doing the rounds for a while and would probably be appearing nearer later on.

Same thing happened with Adam West too many years earlier. Two very bad choices I've never got over!

Ugh, the BFI is not the one I have frown

Not to go too off-topic (cause yay James) but it'd be nice for someone to put out NOSFERATU with the Anderson reconstruction of Erdmann's score, which apparently more faithful to Erdmann's actual score than Heller's.

This is terrific news. So glad that David Huckvale will be doing the CD notes. A very lovely man. Last year for my birthday he did a cue on piano from Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed just for me . . .a cue I might add that was not on the GDI CD!!!
I cannot wait for this!!!

Holy Cow! This one came completely out of the blue - very VERY excited indeed. I’ve longed for more Hammer scores to be given the red (blood red, naturally!) carpet treatment. I hope this wonderful music afforded a non-compressed or limited audio transfer so the full scale and grandeur of the scores, and the orchestra is allowed to breathe.

Needless to say, these will be a day one purchase for sure - thank you SO much to all involved in making this happen! smile

Why why why is that when I announce a new recording...rather than get congratulated on at least doing that there is always someone whose says...but why not do this!!! smile smile smile. And my standard reply now is "you send me the money and I will record anything you want?" .....this is then usually followed by a very long silence smile
