So it's mainly Elfman's take on Batman that resulted in your "underwhelmed" feeling towards him?

No, just the things I've heard. I looked up his filmography and can remember very little about the music. I can't say that for my favorites...though there are plenty of movies I never saw that had amazing scores.

Of course, just because he's not a favorite of mine doesn't take away from the fact that he's considered one of the top film composers out there, and I fully expect to have my opinion change with further investigation. Keep in mind, please, that I've got plenty to listen to by my favorites before I ever truly take the plunge with the Elfman repertoire. Morricone alone...

But, as I said it's likely I'll change my mind in time. In fact, I might give Thomas Newman a test drive here soon as well...

Yeah, I was trying to find out what were the things you've heard. smile You mentioned Batman but I think that's it. Black Beauty doesn't sound like Batman, and as you know, if you like it I was going to recommend Sommersby next. But if there are other specific Elfman scores you remember disliking, I'd be happy to know what they are so that I don't steer you towards them.

Again, not thrilled with the music in the movies I've seen he's scored, however I really can't confidently say more NOT OWNING A SINGLE SCORE lol! I don't want to get too specific, because I haven't had a chance to grab a full score of his and slap the headphones on. That would be unfair to an elite composer.

Perhaps it was too flippant a remark for such an accomplished composer as DE, in fact I cop to total ignoramitude here. Forgive me...

My s.o. dropped a three-year anniversary gift on me this evening: The Intrada Boys From Brazil!!!!

This was my first ever score, had it as a little kid in the 70s, haven't heard it (though I've had fun watching the intentionally campy film) in nearly four decades.

Very psyched! If I can tear Alien away from my skull long enough.

I'm very psyched to hear your a sample of your music.

I've done it! Finally grabbed the double disc Masada at a semi-reasonable price. This was my latest Grail obtained, very happy with this!
