It’s probably worth pointing out that the guitar scores episode with Carlos Rafael Rivera was record length, about double that of a regular episode due to us covering 3+ Goldsmith scores within it (and it also took us two recording sessions). And the other regular episode was also covering multiple (two) Goldsmith scores, even if they were within a single episode of radio… we also did two recording sessions for that one, and David stitched them together.

So yeah, technically we INCREASED the number of Goldsmith scores we covered on our regular episodes this past year, from four to five! wink So there… I guess it points towards us getting a whopping SIX regular episodes out in 2025?

By way of comparison, look at some of my other favorite film music podcasts:
Settling the Score put out five episodes this year, but only three of those were regular episodes (so comparing their five produced episodes total against our seven makes more sense, even though that’s still a record low for us):
https://www.settlingthescorepodcast.com/
And Art of the Score only put out ONE new episode in all of 2024… but I’m still super grateful for it because it’s the first one they’ve released to the public since 2021!
http://www.artofthescore.com.au/
Brian McVickar’s A Score to Settle podcast also only put out a single episode in 2024 (one of the best though).
But our friends at Legacy of John Williams beat us by two this past year, putting out nine total podcasts for 2024… everyone including them still seems to have slowed, however. Maybe it’s just the world in general, as we are all just regular hobbyists and not making a living from our podcasting? It definitely feels like the world is just becoming a tougher and more stressful place, sadly. frown But I promise we will keep plugging along!

My commenting on the show's slow output doesn't come from a place of criticism so much as a place of greed. I just want more of them! I've said before on the board that even if your ultimate plan of covering every single last thing Goldsmith ever wrote doesn't get completed, the fact that you've shone so much light on his early career is in itself a very valuable thing. I've been a fan for decades, but the material on your shows have been made up almost entirely of music I've never heard. or even knew existed. Most appreciated in these dark days since he passed.

Yes, 2024 was a tough year for all the film music podcasts!

For mine, A Score To Settle, it's a completely solo job and has been since 2017 and in 2024, it was a matter of no longer having the time, what with my day job, dating/social life, exercise regime, additional studies, etc. I also found that I had covered most all of the topics that I set out to feature at the outset. Who knows, there might be a return for an episode here or there!

At the very least, I hope you continue your annual tradition of a show with Neil S. Bulk, because those are fantastic and the last one was especially good. smile

Also, to DavidCorkum: I didn’t mean to respond to you as if you were complaining! But maybe it’s a little bit of a sore spot because I’d like to put out episodes more often (and more promptly, too, after we record them — the greatly increased turnaround between recording and eventual publishing can complicate things more, and is especially a bummer when we have guests). Someone in another thread was encouraging us to give up our (roughly) chronological approach altogether, really wanting us to get to the well-known Goldsmith scores while they were still alive basically. So it’s really good to hear from you that you particularly enjoy us digging into Goldsmith’s early, largely unreleased, work. Thank you!

And my response not from a place of defensiveness, but encouragement. We may release as irregularly as Sopranos seasons sometimes, but we're all still on this raging ... clipper ship.

That's one thing I really liked when it first started. All the little known or little listened to stuff really came alive as the guys covered it.

For mine, A Score To Settle . . .

Hey, you're Brian? Nice.

I know I've said it elsewhere, but your annual chats with Neil are delightfully anticipated pleasures.

Hey Brian, I'am also a fan and emailed you about your show last month. But no reply. Looking forward to your Neil S Bulk Black friday bash review. Hope we get to hear it soon.

That "someone in another thread" doesn't want you to abandon any Goldsmith score, early or not, but favors a lottery system which generates suspense and variety and thus benefits everybody.

Thanks for the shout-out. It's mostly a solo job for me too and I do it in my spare time. Tim and Mike are the best contributors and supporters of the project, but all the editing and post-production of the podcast is on my shoulders and my life has gotten busier over the last 6 months with work and family obligations. And since I am about to become a dad in a few months, it will get even busier! smile But I hope to continue the series of course and I'm working on passing on some of the legwork to my fellow team members. So for me it's not that the world is tougher and more stressful, quite the contrary is about to become even brighter.

I believe there are definitely too many podcasts around, including film music ones, and our days are still 24hrs and we need to work, eat, sleep and do other things (including listening to our favorite music), so I try to be very respectful of people's time and the fact we don't have infinite hours just to listen to others blabbering. That's why I post articles and episodes only when I have them ready and it's not a regular thing. It still gives me the joy of something I do for pure pleasure and not feeling obligated at all.

Thanks for all that do, Maurizio, your podcast is a first class production!

Well, not that anyone asked, but if anyone cares, we put out 33 episodes in 2024, not including the 18 weekly hour-long Friday Playlist shows I started in August for my patrons. Having said that, I'm not a one-man operation and have a wonderful team producing additional shows for me, including contributions this year from Jason Drury, J. Blake Fichera, and Eric Silver.

I believe there are definitely too many podcasts around, including film music ones...

Interesting... I always felt that the more film music-themed podcasts the better. I stand by that so much so that I proudly have a section on my web site where I curate links to all of the fantastic (and not so fantastic) film, TV and video game music radio shows and podcasts that I know about. This was something Beth Krakower would do in her monthly CineRadio Airplay Charts emails.

Check'em all out here:
