Hey, an out-of-the-box choice for an expansion! I dig it! I don't remember what the score's like. I suppose a revisit of the film is in order.

Thirty nine tracks
Ten under a minute in length.

"OPTIMal listening experience"?

Don't think so.

The “optimum” claim was made by the FSM release, not this one. (Though shouldn’t it be “optimal”?)

yeah.
but the point is, the "optimal" listening experience is the Shire produced FSM version.

The FSM album is very well put together, but there's a definitely a few cues I wish I had on CD whenever I re-watch the film.

It could be that the "optimal" listening experience was constructed according to the time available while sharing the CD with another score. I mean, if he had been given an hour to fill, his optimal selection might have been different. Maybe.

This new release is specifically described as "expanded" rather than complete. I imagine a fan can itemize what's missing (I've never seen the film).

Didn't somebody say a few months ago that the labels rarely describe anything as "complete" anymore 'cos there's always SOMETHING that isn't available (an alternate take, a synth layer, a mixing bowl) and they'd rather avoid the hassle?

That said, I am MORE than happy with an extra 25 minutes, and cannot wait for this CD to arrive (apparently my order's already shipped!)

Got my copy delieved today.

But can this label and any other label stop using thiose horrible CD cases that use those sharp pointy teeth to hold the booklet. They always make indentions on the booklets.

Considering this one. Any summations on the full score as a listening experience and all that?

Agreed. It is pretty annoying.

So is it worth getting if one already has the original album? In terms of 64 minutes VS 41.

There's some great stuff in the expansion. I think the original album flows better, but I'm glad I can now drop the new material into that playlist.

Just stumbled upon this live perfomance of "The Reascent of Man" and "Ella's Theme." I don't know how I've missed it for seven years.

I've always liked that ending, so very much. I originally got the FSM for Farewell My Lovely, however, Monkey Shines is a great score for the specialist ensemble that characterizes it down to the last detail. The Double Vision gallops are very distinct and I've never even seen the film.
