I was watching the first season third episode of FRIENDS and there was a running joke where everyone loved Monica's new BF. (except Monica) Ross and Rachel quipped, "If only he was female".

That would've been cruelly ironic since Ross, who had a crush on Rachel all his life, lost his first wife to a lesbian.

Inquiry minds want to know!

If Rachel were into women, she would have made a pass at Monica, bigly. But the only time they ever really kissed was as a bargained performance, to buy back their apartment from Joey and Chandler.

Rachel's place in history is more about her hair than her desires. Young people don't remember this, but Aniston's fourth hairstyle of Season 1, known as the Rachel, had a massive cultural impact. People were talking about it, women were carrying her picture to the hairdresser's, hoping to get the cut... I even wrote a poem about it, "Ode to a Hairstyle" (this was the paper era, and it's in storage somewhere). But the Rachel exploded upon the consciousness of Western civilization, and both sides of the Atlantic were changed forever.

Oh, I remember the Rachel hairstyle craze and proving once again women have no taste in (hair) styles.

Wow solium, how nice of you to say. How do we know you don't wear your hair like Lloyd Christmas?

I had a crush on Aniston when she was on the short-lived Ferris Bueller TV show.

Brother Sol, remember...
Women don't do that for the approval of men, they do it for the approval of other women.

Or is that a myth?
I don't know, I get confused sometimes.

MYTH. What happened to enlightenment here? How about the fact that a woman fixes her hair to please herself?

Yeah, I guess that would be it too.

I know it's different for men, but personally, I dress and cut my hair to please The Missus.
She's the one that's gotta look at me all day.
Whereas, I look at myself once in the morning, and once in the evening.

That's nice of you Oct. When I was much younger I had long hair because I loved the way it looked. My husband liked it too which flattered me. When I decided to cut it shorter, he said he preferred it long but it was up to me. I did it for convenience and motherhood lol - so much easier. Since then the length has gone up and down like a set of blinds.

Perhaps my age has something to do with it. smile

I sport the "Bernie Sanders" and it drives the ladies crazy.

The reason doesn't matter. It looks like a wet mop on her head. Now do I get points for "liking" lesbian kissing?

One of my favorite posts--can't find the thread--is when Our Joan Hue verbally bludgeoned John Walsh for posting that he enjoyed watching the ladies at work on one another, so to speak.

As for "Rachel Green", I didn't even know who that was until I clicked the thread. I didn't even know those characters had last names.

In fact, I've never seen an entire episode of "Friends", though I did watch an opening(?) scene in which the dark-haired Friend who isn't Anniston discovered a monkey in the kitchen hiding underneath a silver cloche, yipping, and then quickly recovering the dish. Was this on Friends? I changed the channel after that.

Oh, I also read a BBC article discussing how "Friends" shocks thin-skinned SJW Millennials. Who knew? Friends is now "edgy"!

Just re-read the article: I thought the series began in 1995, not 1998 as the article states.

I'm less inaccurate than the Beeb, though.

What about that cloche monkey sequence I mentioned? Anyone know the episode?

FRIENDS was edgy in it's time for openly discussing sexuality . I keep hearing Millennial's are the most informed, educated, involved group since the 60's. I dunno, they really seem ill-informed and lack critical thinking skills. There was no anti gay message on the show, it used humor to "normalize" it. I would love to know Millennial's reaction to Seinfeld, talk about an anti-pc television series!

If I remember correctly a trained monkey "escaped" a movie set. Ross befriended the monkey for sometime until they accidentally found the trainer and gave the monkey back.
