Dubois Records will release a new soundtrack album for the BBC drama Shetland. The album features selections of the original music from the show’s fifth, sixth, seventh and eight season composed by Emmy Award winner John Lunn (Downton Abbey, The Last Kingdom, The White Queen, Belgravia, The White Princess, Grantchester) and Danny Saul (The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die). The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, December 15. The streaming/download link will be added to this page soon. Silva Screen Records has previously released an album featuring Lunn’s music from the first seasons back in 2018. Shetland is based on Ann Cleeves’ novels and stars Ashley Jensen, Douglas Henshall,Alison O’Donnell, Lewis Howden, Steven Robertson, Anne Kidd, Stewart Porter, Erin Armstrong and Mark Bonnar. My copy of SHETLAND arrived today from the UK and also plays perfectly. Whew! It is apparently a re-pressing (2nd pressing), not a long-lost cache of the original (but defective) CD. I do have both. So I compared then side-by-side to see if one might be able to discern any difference. To the casual observer, they jewel case inserts are identical. BUT...if you turn the CDs over and compare the matrix numbers on the inner ring of the shiny side: ORIGINAL [DEFECTIVE] PRESSING (2018): SILCD1571 11 A00 REISSUED [CORRECTED] PRESSING (2024) SILCD1571-V2 42 A00 I presume the "-V2 42" is Silva's way of designating "Version 2." Music-wise, I MUCH prefer the original CD (series 1-4) over the new CD (series 5-8). I liked the original musical approach (more melodic and ethnic, featuring alto flute, cello, and violin)). The newer CD tends to drone on-and-on with a lot of electronics. It may suit the films, but no so much my ears. But then I haven't seen past series 6, so take my musical opinion as somewhat uninformed. To anyone still sitting on the fence, be thus advised and order away! Ron Burbella

Ron Burbella Thanks for the details Ron, I hope you didn't overpay for the defective CD or were able to get your money back in some way. So happy you've got this too - still waiting on my end. As for the second volume, I've embraced it after many repeated listens, it's really grown on me. I'd love to get it on CD too, but am still just happy to have it digitally.
