THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL: LIMITED EDITION LLLCD 1457
Music by Bernard Herrmann
Limited Edition of 3000 Units
RETAIL PRICE: $15.98

La-La Land Records, 20th Century Fox and Fox Music proudly present a re-issue of legendary composer Bernard Herrmann’s (VERTIGO, PSYCHO, TAXI DRIVER) original motion picture score to the classic 1951 sci-fi feature film 1985’s THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL, starring Michael Rennie, Patricia Neal and Hugh Marlowe, and directed by Robert Wise. Composer Herrmann’s iconic score is a milestone that anticipated electronic music with its then unheard-of instrumentation for electric violin, electric bass, electric theremins, four pianos, four harps and what the composer called “a very strange section of about 30-odd brass.” It’s a landmark score for a landmark film – a motion picture still very much relevant in its warnings of nuclear proliferation. Produced by Nick Redman, and restored and mastered by Mike Matessino, this classic soundtrack title returns in print with new art-design by Jim Titus, which includes a 24 page booklet featuring a wonderfully informative collection of previously published liners by writers Jon Burlingame, Julie Kirgo, Mike Matessino and Steven C. Smith. This is a limited edition of 3000 Units.

FEUD – BETTE AND JOAN: LIMITED EDITION
LLLCD 1449
Music by Mac Quayle
Limited Edition of 1500 Units
RETAIL PRICE: $19.98

La-La Land Records, Fox 21 Television Studios, FXP and 20th Century Fox TV Records present the world premiere CD release of renowned composer Mac Quayle (AMERICAN HORROR STORY, SCREAM QUEENS, AMERICAN CRIME STORY, MR. ROBOT) original score to the acclaimed 2017 FX special limited series presentation of FEUD – BETTE AND JOAN, starring Jessica Lange, Susan Sarandon and Stanley Tucci. FEUD – BETTE AND JOAN was a revelation – a wildly entertaining chronicle of screen siren rivals Bette Davis and Joan Crawford and their volatile teaming on the set of WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE. Drama, humor, tension, emotion and inspiration burst forth – all of it expertly captured, supported and unleashed by composer Mac Quayle’s amazing score – a work that draws influences from classic Hollywood movie music – echoes of Herrmann, Goldsmith, Mancini and more – and fashions all of it into an original musical tapestry that is as respectfully, gloriously retro as it is breathtakingly contemporary. Produced by Mac Quayle and mastered by John Rodd, this special limited edition CD release features additional music tracks NOT available on the digital download assembly and exclusive, in-depth liner notes by writer Daniel Schweiger, with comments from the composer. Sharp art design is by Dan Goldwasser. This is a limited edition of 1500 units.

Composer Fiedel expertly supports the serious import of this realistic examination of sexual assault and thoughtfully examines the film’s complex levels of psychological trauma. Strings, synth and percussion meld in strikingly dramatic fashion – resulting in an important score that is finally getting its debut release in any format. Produced by
Dan Goldwasser and mastered by James Nelson, this special release is limited to 1500 units and features bonus tracks, exclusive, in-depth liner notes by writer Daniel Schweiger, (with comments from the composer) and sharp art design by Goldwasser.

I haven't seen the show yet, but those samples are pure '80s freakin' awesomeness, and if I may be so bold, you've quite a handsome longbox.

Didn't people throw them out when all CDs came in longboxes? Now it's an extra $5 for what previously was considered garbage?

Yeah, that's what we pretty much did. Waste of space.

But now it's considered "retro" and therefore NOT garbage. razz

I watched all 10 episodes in one sitting and it still left me wanting more. If this were a movie it would rival the original IMO but in a unique different way. It successfully brings back the feel of the original films, while adding a new and complex storyline. Feels like a realistic portrayel of who these characters would be in today's society. Writing is great, clever and steeped in 1980's nostalgia, with plenty of nods to the original. Heck the first episode even features a MUSIC MONTAGE. When's the last time you saw one of those?!

Interesting "retro" release. They were important to some people. I have a milk crate 1/2 full of long boxes that my father carefully cut to preserve the art work, but now what to do with them? He had some of them framed. which are also in storage.

Listening to Cobra Kai as we speak, and damn if it isn’t scratching me right where I itch. Zach Robinson and Leo Birenburg have done a near-perfect job of encapsulating an ideal musical “feeling” for Johnny and the Cobra Kai, and have undoubtedly studied (or heard ad nauseam) Bill Conti’s style of orchestral bombast and flourish, because this feels like it could’ve been an instant continuation of Karate Kid with different composers. I miss Conti’s thematic material and style, but understand that the YouTube series is focused around Johnny, not Daniel. And my Lord, did Robinson and Birenburg *nail* it!

A special thanks to La-La Land for the release! Once again, unsurprisingly, a knock out of the park!

I'm really happy for the bonus tracks on the CD. I first downloaded the iTunes version and there were cues missing that I was really looking forward to and I was highly disappointed. A couple cues make their appearance in the bonus tracks.

I read on Twitter today (from 5/22) that there is no planned DVD or Blu-Ray release of this series. That’s terribly disappointing...I don’t want my listens of the music in the series to cost me a handful of bucks every single month! But on the flip side, *very* happy we got a CD.

That's what I don't like about Neflix, YouTube Red and Amazon original series. You gotta continually pay them for the privilege of watching their series.
