Is it just me or are there a ridiculous number of completely inane threads on this board at the moment?

Upside down spines on CD covers for example - could it be some sort of worldwide conspiracy, or as I suspect it merely confirms that the aliens are indeed among us. The fact that 'we all know' that JW has had 43 not 42 oscar nominations. Ha, ha, ha, ha, how could anyone have made such an awful faux pas!

Having said that though am I the only one or has anyone else noticed that some composers' names start with the same letter or at least similar letters. This can't possibly be a coincidence, can it?

It occurs to me also that some CD covers are more shiney than others, which I suspect is down to gloss UV coating in many cases but something much more sinister in others...

Hey, papa, we're just practicing for how all threads will be under the new tough FSM censorship policy. I thought that thread title about cleaning toilets was, well, er, pretty durn provocative, didn't you? I was blushing when I read that, and I thought to myself (that's how we'll all be thinking, BTW), I wonder how ol' Jerzy got away with THAT one!

It’s very simple, papalazarou. You just need your wife to desert you, which is what has happened in my case.

Two weeks ago, Ania packed her bags and moved out.

After fifteen years of marriage, she’d finally had enough of my obsessive talk about soundtracks and films, and refused point-bank to countenance further expenditure on CDs, DVDs and imported film books.

However, the straw that broke the camel’s back was the partition that I put up in our living room to support shelving for my VHS video cassettes.

Three thousand of them.

So she left and took her copy of Pretty Woman and Dirty Dancing with her.

Not surprising, I turned to drink for solace; hence the post on vodka Martinis. I’m sure that some members may have seen a significant change in my posts; this was the result of my being in a constant state of alcoholic intoxication. A litre of Polish vodka a day has been known to adversely affect people much stronger than I.

In my case, the effect has been devastating.

I used to be a sensitive and reasonable person, yet these are qualities which do not readily spring to mind when reading my recent posts. The cynical comments that characterize my latest message board contributions point to a much more insidious personality.

Of late, I have been unable to sleep for more than three hours, which is why I started posting at four o’clock in the morning. Of course, I was unaware of just how impaired my mental faculties were at this time.

The John Williams post was born of ennui and restlessness. I read the figure of 42 in the “Newsweek” article and started to recall all of the composer’s nominations. If you check, you will find the list is correct – apart from the fact that I inadvertently repeated Nixon, thus giving me 43. A fatal mistake that I am paying for now (and will no doubt continue to pay for until Hell freezes over).

There’s an English saying to the effect that those who live in glass houses, shouldn’t throw stones.

My glass house has a great many broken panes!

The dreadful error notwithstanding, there was absolutely no need for the supercilious tone of my comments – and I have only myself to blame for not realizing just what I was posting until it was too late. The bottle of vodka I consumed that night certainly didn’t help one bit.

So as I stare at the thousands of videos in my living room, all I can do is pray that the demons that they house are not allowed to pollute my mind and dissipate the sorrow that I feel. For without this I will not be spurred on to beg my wife to return. And this I must, though I dread to imagine what the terms of my capitulation will be.

Please forgive me if I lack the nerve to keep you and other members posted of further humiliating developments in my life.

They’d all be deemed off-topic in any case – and summarily deleted!

Sir, please forgive me for making you 'issue forth' with regard to this most tragic of times in your life, but thank you for sharing it with us. Perhaps now the healing can begin, combined with a measured reduction of vodka consumption on a daily basis.

Have you ever tried listening to film scores? An odd concept to the uninitiated I know, but they can prove most beneficial in times of stress.

Our thoughts are with you,

Kind regards

Papalazarou, Mr.

....Jerzy, all your posts (including the slightly inebriated ones)have been alternately fascinating, informative, amusing and thoughtful...at least for me, so please stay with us.

I hope, as I'm sure all your other fans on this board do, that your personal situation improves quickly and that your Ania will soon be back home.

We'll keep good thoughts for you!

Jerzy,

Please allow me to echo the above sentiments as expressed by manderley.

I have been enjoying your posts as well, and am somewhat amazed that you were able to have your wits about you and keep such a good sense of humor while going though such an obviously difficult time in your life.

Please stay with us. And please know my thoughts are with you, and I hope your situation improves.

Thank you all for your kind words!

The one good thing to come out of this is that I won’t have to limit my Internet time to ten minutes a day any more! For good or for bad, I’ll be able to share my crazy thoughts with you on more ridiculous subjects, but especially my beloved film music.

Unfortunately, as much as I hate doing it, it’s difficult not to focus on how lonely and miserable I am.

Even as I write this, I’m listening to Miklos Rozsa’s Lust For Life and I hear the brutal words of Anthony Quinn as he walks out on Kirk Douglas:

“I know all about loneliness – only I don’t whine about it.”

I’m too Polish to keep my feelings to myself, so if you’re prepared to indulge me, I’m only too happy to stay in touch with you all and gabble.

In fact, that reminds me of a funny thing that happened on the way to the DVD shop…

But more about that elsewhere.

God Bless you all!

And the America that produced John Williams and Jerry Goldsmith!
