Being the same year as Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, their breezy synth similarities are what make this quite a companion score for me. Heather and Heather's Corn Nuts.

I have the 1989 CD, so I will not buy this. Nice score, my favorite Newman along with Fire Birds.

Posted my gratitude for Heathers in the Small Soldiers thread before this one was started. Great choice for an encore. Looking forward to this one!

I have the original release. One of my all-time faves, and a score that really makes the movie.

This is a really interesting score… despite Heathers being a teen film, the only pop music in the film is the bubbly and intentionally ridiculous Big Fun song. The music, like the costumes, doesn't so much date the film today as sort of set it in its own universe, in a way that a more song-heavy soundtrack would not have. The sound samples make it sound very similar to the original CD, but a bit louder.

Also, you know it’s not in chronological order when “Third Funeral” comes two tracks before “First Funeral!”

Heh… in the laserdisc commentary, the director refers to this as David Newman's most Thomas Newman score. Also, you know it’s not in chronological order when “Third Funeral” comes two tracks before “First Funeral!” Chronological Order: Dear Diary Into the Cafeteria Martha Dumptruck You're Beautiful Veronica and J.D. Croquet The Dorm Dorm Party Strip Croquet Suicide Note Veronica's Shower First Funeral The Forest Forest Chase Second Funeral Back To School Heather's Locker Poor Little Heather Petition Montage Veronica's Dream Third Funeral J.D.'s Bomb J.D's Final Stand J.D. Oops, I should have mentioned… “Dear Diary” is the opening 28 seconds of “Strip Croquet.” It's the cue for the post-title sequence. To my recollection, that is the only combined cue on the album. I don't recall any music being missing from the album (aside from the Big Fun song and the versions of “Que Sera Sera”), but it has been a while since I have seen the film. There is a cue heard toward the end of the film when Veronica stalks J.D. in the high school that sounds like “Forest Chase,” I don't know if it is the same cue retracked, or a very similar arrangement that wasn't included on the album because it would have been redundant.

That’s good to know the score is largely, perhaps entirely, complete!

Any liner notes on this new version? Shouldn't be too hard to get Newman and director Michael Lehmann to say a few words?
