Composer Alan Howarth will be accepting an award and performing a concert of music from John Carpenter's movies – including "Halloween," "Big Trouble in Little China," "Escape From New York" and "They Live" – at Hollywood Horrorfest, July 27. More details here (link is neither bloody, nor disgusting, but contains a few words from Alan):

After the concert, there will be a screening of "They Live," celebrating the film's 30th anniversary, and a Q&A with Alan, actor Peter Jason (Gilbert) and more guests to be announced. [For full disclosure, at 7PM on Sunday, July 29, they will also be screening my new short, "4EVR," featuring a score by Austin Wintory: https://vimeo.com/244138499]

Giving this a bump while tickets remain for Alan Howarth, Friday, July 27.

Hollywood Horrorfest has now published its full schedule – including some free events, and the final show, where our aforementioned Austin-Wintory-scored short appears, Screening Block 5, July 29:

http://blog.hollywoodhorrorfest.com/full-schedule-and-tickets-for-all-events/

To quote the flier: 'Only those events labelled as FREE are FREE. All others are priced' – makes sense, right? The "They Live" screening, Q&A and concert is $25 ($26.87, including service fee). I recall John Carpenter's concerts last year were far more expensive; and I thought Alan did a superb job of recapturing the spirit of their collaborations in his BSX re-recordings, especially "The Thing" and "Assault on Precinct 13". I'm excited to see him in this much more intimate venue. Obey.

Mandatory plug for a book I really enjoyed (and if you're viewing this thread, you most likely will enjoy it, too).

FYI, tonight's Alan Howarth concert and screening (North Hollywood, CA) is now sold out. But say 'hi' if you have tickets; and I'll be at the festival for the final show on Sunday evening, too.

Looks a decent event, Howarth's cv was a good combination with Carpenter that's what got me into his work outside John scoring stuff, I'm not a fan of these movies some had ok moments doe, I'm just glad i discovered part of his work.

His best pieces, EFNY, SOTW, TL sound completely different from one another while keeping mostly at an intense tempo, sometimes over screeching really eerie, Alan's use of synthesisers & electronics Etc, definitely outline his skills they were catchy scores quite effective around the 80s period.

Is there going to be a tribute to Roddy he was the lead in They Live, i don't mind that one the shades notion made it interesting had some funny moments too, shame Piper passed last year good guy went to early.

Is there going to be a tribute to Roddy he was the lead in They Live....

Alan dedicated his "They Live" suite to Roddy, as part of his performance of his and Carpenter's music. It was a fun evening, with some great info shared by Alan, the film editor and a member of the special effects crew. Alan signed autographs, LPs, CDs and sheet music. The movie was very amusing, the first time I've seen it since 1989, with some great one-liners and fun parallels with the modern zeitgeist, plus Carpenter and Alan's boisterous and bluesy score that makes it snap along.
