There were already commenters on that page hoping that the unexpurgated versions were used.
I hope so too.
I've had quite enough of this PC-rewriting-history crap.
If the "heathen/savages" lines were scrubbed, they can count me out on this one.
Fingers slightly crossed.

I guess I was a casual viewer of the series, I don't remember much about it. What was censored?

http://www.classicjq.com/artifacts/videos/dvd/DVDDeficienciesAudio.aspx

It ran uncensored on Boomerang some years ago.

H-B is awful with their vintage releases, using updated credits and logos and other things, not ot mention this editing. I would love it it the actual end credits for each episode are included instead of one "general" version and at least one example of the complete opening. I get it that the sponsor stuff wouldn't appeal to most people, but as a Special Feature, it would be wonderful.

Thanks, I figured it had to be racial slurs.

I was just reminiscing watching as a boy. Huge smile on my face.
I was bonkers for the Turu episode (being, naturally, also bonkers for dinosaurs). I still love the sound they came up with for Turu's screech. I've heard that same sound for a few different things over the years, but I still think of it as Turu's sound.
And the mummy episode TERRIFIED me--in particular the shots of it lumbering and THAT MUSIC underscoring it!
It still gives me shivers to this day.

An animated show that didn't talk down to kids, and action-packed excitement.

Thanks, I figured it had to be racial slurs.

They are not racial slurs. They are a defiant and or angry response to a backward society causing harm to others based on their beliefs. If the Westboro baptist church "funeral attendants" are scoulded for their behaviour as a result of their ridiculous views, and rightfully so, then so can anyone else. NOT doing so because they are of a different colour, now THAT would be racist.

Either way, to paraphrase Samuel Johnson: "History revision is the last refuge of a scoundrel" and Oscar Wilde: "History revision is the virtue of the vicious".

H-B themselves must have considered them to be racial slurs by nowadays standards, by virtue of the fact that the lines were removed.
I don't think any of us here consider them to be racial slurs--just much ado about nothing.
Maybe I misunderstand, but that was my take on it. I don't think Brother Sol was calling them racial slurs himself.

You would be correct. wink I was summarizing what WB thought might be considered racial slurs.

Uncut from the original broadcast prints according to this:

Also customer reviews on Amazon report the Prime versions are unedited.

Jonny Quest on Blu-ray from Warner Archive is a niche item... hopefully it truly will be uncut.

They could always offer the original audio on a separate track, accessible from the main menu.
And they could call the later edited track "Audio For Wee Delicate Sensibilities".

Soooooo... When Dr. Quest or Race refer to any native as a "savage" (even when they're an ally of the heroes) that's just a way to refer to a "backward society." Good God, that reeks of colonialism. Refer to them as savages because of how backward they are and show them how not to suck so much because they're living "wrong." Give them the gift of God because they're "heathens." Native islanders don't harm anyone. They're typically self-contained societies whose only concerns are living a comfortable life. They certainly don't cross the globe, conquering others and justifying it with the idea that those being persecuted are harmful or backward.

You can bullshit as much as you want, but only characters who aren't white are ever called "savage." The Westboro Baptist Church members would never be called "savage" or any other term associated with non-whites because that's an asinine strawman argument. "Fanatics" would be an appropriate word, as would "zealot," but no one would say savage (and certainly not heathen).

The notion that native islanders, and non-whites in general, are "backward" or "harmful" by default is bigoted as hell. It's the same line of thinking that was used to justify the genocide in the Americas and ignoring that is the real rewriting of history. For the sake of a cartoon no less.

I used to love Jonny Quest as a kid. I watched it religiously, but when it began airing on Boomerang I was soon done with it altogether. You guys can bend over backwards trying to justify the terminology used on the show, or deriding those of us who object as having "wee delicate sensibilities," but there's a reason this nonsense isn't said anymore. It's racist. Talk about wee delicate sensibilities. You'd rather overlook the bigotry of a show's language than listen to reason because it's something you watched as a kid.

Watch away, but don't lie to yourself or concoct absurd attempts at justification. Though I'd love to see you guys try to explain the Our Gang short where one of the African American kids is having a bad day throughout, only to be cheered up with a watermelon at the story's end.

Nah, it's just meant in an adoring way. Same way culture changes the meaning of the "B" and "N" words.

It’s probably useful, for the sake of accuracy, to keep in mind who
this show was written for: post-WWII wage earners and their baby boomer kids.

I don’t think any of us should delude ourselves (as if the last three years of American history leave any doubt) as to the narrow-minded provincialism of the mid-20th-Century American television audience. “Nuke the gooks!”, right? This was a point of pride even for many non-white-supremacists of the day.

That said, today’s “anti-PC”, “anti-Social Justice Warrior” troll foot soldiers are the real snowflakes. They get really perturbed by seeing drag queens in TV ads. Especially because they know full well that these ads are targeted at a pay grade/class sector that they are resolutely excluded from. They’re unfairly disposessed aristocrats who’ve been forced to live below their TRUE status, right?
