The only "pet" I ever owned was, in fact, an aquarium with fish. Can't remember all the types. A couple of gold fish, a silver fish kind of thingie and two Loricariidae which swam at the bottom and grew bigger by the minute. Perhaps a few more. It was a terrible sight one morning as I woke up to see that the silver fish had killed off one of the gold fish with its eye hanging out. As a result, we threw the Silver fish in the toilet.
Wow. There are so many. Egg layers like Angel Fish, Bumble Bees, Neon Tetras, Glass Fish, Algae Eaters and of course Betta's. Live bearers like Guppies, Platy's, Black Mollies and Swordfish. I've never had salt water fish. They are great too but very expensive.
I love Bettas, they come in such beautiful colors and tails. What about you guys?
I was always fond of neon tetra, but you need at least 10 of them to see them at their best.
I have four neon tetras in the same tank with a betta and they get along great! I also have two nerite snails and they do a great job keeping the tank clean. Also, I replace half the water in the tank once a week. I have a hose that siphons out the water and waste, it takes about five minutes and works great. I keep the fish in the tank and work around them.
I was in a long term relationship for 18 years and my partner at the time had a 50 gallon fresh water tank. His favorite and soon mine were Parrot Fish. Gorgeous pink and orange colors. They fascinated guests whenever we had them lol. Very easy to take care of.
