JOE 1956:

My dom.max_script_run_time is already set at "20".

Try 60 and see if it helps at all. For what it's worth, it's not given me any problems anywhere (using version 52.9.0 ESR).

Again, is it any particular site giving the trouble?

JOE 1956:

When I turn my pc on and click on the desktop Firefox icon, sometimes it takes almost a minute for the Firefox page to fully appear and sometimes I get, "Mozilla Firefox seems slow to start. Learn how to speed it up"......that is, refresh Firefox." at the bottom of the page.
Also, when I enter Youtube's website (before I view any videos), I get the "A page is slowing down your browser. What do you want to do?" at the top of the page.

Also, my dom.max was set at 10, not 20 (I accidentally looked at the dom.max for chrome which was 20).
It's now set at 20, so I'll wait and see if it solves the problems.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, but it was because of a little test I'm running. Yesterday I changed that setting to 600, and there's been no ill effects whatsoever. Try that and see if it helps. Use that program I mentioned earlier and back up your stuff first (which needs doing regardless).

This may not fix the problem, but hopefully will at least delay it.

(Firefox has been historically slow to load. Version 60 has sped things up, but since it's best "feature" is to FUBAR all the themes and extensions you've settled in with, I went back to 52.9.0 ESR. Loading speed is also faster if you're running 64 bit).

JOE 1956:

I changed the setting to "20" and it eliminated the problem of "a webpage is slowing Firefox down".

But the problem of "Mozilla Firefox seems slow to start. Learn how to speed it up"......that is, refresh Firefox." continues. So back to my original question---if I refresh Firefox, are there any drawbacks to refreshing Firefox?

If you "refresh", you'll lose any themes and/or extensions you may have, plus lose any user settings.

Try to re install your mozilla fire fox and see if it works properly now. Another thing is do check that if all plugins on your fire fox are working when the firefox is running.

I had the latest version forced upon me which was a piece of SHIT! It deleted some of my plug ins claiming they weren't "compatible" with the new version. I searched for old versions of Firefox and downloaded the version I had before the crap update. Now, everything's back to normal. I make sure that I check the options every time I use Firefox to see that the "Never update" box is checked as I don't want anymore surprises.

Good idea (it's what I've done, am sticking with 52.9.0 ESR) but make sure you're disconnected from the internet before reloading your favored version. Mozilla is just as sleazy as Microsoft nowadays, with automatic updating already enabled.

Disconnect first! Then double check all settings.
