Why do people put their CDs on ebay and then go to our trading post and put a link to them there?

Isn't it easier (cheaper?) to cut out the ebay middleman and just list the CDs on the trading post?

You might say that there are potential customers of those CDs that are not on this site, but... c'mon..... we are the people that are going to buy them. Anyone who would buy say, Nate and Hayes is more than likely on this site.

A) They are often not on this site.

B) There was a CD I listed on eBay last year for $25 that to my surprise was bid up to $70. That would not happen if I just offered it here.

I guess the discussion of "how many TRUE film score fans are out there and how many are NOT part of this site" is certainly worthy of its own thread.

But yes, getting $70 for something you would have taken $25 for is a good argument for ebay.

Despite my low prices I hardly ever get a sale on here. Especially Italian scores.

I'm sure those selling on this site are straight, stand up, honest sellers, but I feel safer buying from a site like Ebay where sellers are more or less verified and there are some consumer protections.

Ebay gives you a greater audience. I have noticed on here that the sellers are pretty well stuck on their prices or they want to trade. Ebay gives you a little better protection against bad transactions, but you should have no problem here if you use Paypal.
My father posted CDs for sale one time on here and most of the people just wanted to trade, so I have always sold on eBay.

There are also a lot of folks who use this site but don't participate by making comments. When I list on ebay I also add them to the trading post too, in hopes to catch a potential buyer's eye.

I endorse this and Amazon as well, where I have found and bought many used CDs over the years. I've been on this board as a viewer and member for 15-18 years, and I have visited the trading post probably less than 10 times altogether, and have never even seriously considered buying this way.

eBay is so big they're barely a middle man.
It's more like that you as a seller are the middle man between the customer and eBay.

That doesn't make any sense. The seller owns it, and then the buyer owns it. To go from one owner to the next, they go through ebay. Ebay never owns it. Ebay is the middleman between the buyer and seller.

I used to sell quite a bit on Amazon.

My main area of interest is movies, so I would regularly prune my collection and put stuff up for sale.
Worked great for many years, then Amazon got cute and started making it impossible for the little "garage sellers". All of a sudden they required current invoices and approvals and set up all kinds of hoops to jump through.

Around the time that happened, I started to gravitate towards soundtracks after a couple purchases and new computer speakers rekindled my enthusiasm. It worked out great because now with dvd and Bds off limits, I could sample soundtracks and then turn around and sell those to feed the beast.
Of course Amazon had to go and muck that up for the little guys too. Now it's just like movies- you need invoices and approvals.

I hated ebay (and especially getting dinged twice between their cut and paypals), but it looks like I'm headed back there as the discs have been piling up and I'm running out of space and money for this hobby.

As a buyer- after years of lurking, I finally was motivated to order some stuff from one of the ubiquitous sellers in the TP. Unfortunately it's turning out to be an exercise in aggravation. Don't want to say anything bad just yet, but it's not leaving me with much enthusiasm to repeat the process with any other private sales.
