Huh. So DC apparently isn't allergic to female film composers after all... Yavar

So, no standard hat pick of five composers, no "hot" composer ... could she have ben picked on her talents? Going with somebody the director thought was right for the job? Did something magical just happen???

So, no standard hat pick of five composers, no "hot" composer ... She does indeed seem like an up-and-comer with Sicario 2, just on the face of it, IMO... Yavar

Why would they be? And can you imagine if they were! I was informed today that Hans Zimmer had in fact actively campaigned for there to be a female film composer on the original Wonder Woman, but it was shot down by executives. It's interesting that he took the Wonder Woman 2 job offer and then DC turns around and hires a female composer for the Joker movie. Kind of a nice surprise ending to the past couple days... Yavar

This is fantastic news. Hildur is great- her work with my beloved Johann Johannsson- esp- Mary Magdalene and her awesome score for Sicario 2!! You can't be serious! "Sicario 2" is one of the the most unbearable scores of 2018. If this is a sign of the estetic Warner/DC is looking for this new movie, then it's a pitty for such a great character as the Joker. Just when I tought they have learned a lesson and can't go worst after "Suicide Squad"...

I agree with you. I'm not saying the "Sicario 2" score doesn't work for that particular movie. I'm saying that I personally can't stand it, and that I very much regret this is the style Warner seems to want for the new Joker movie.

Hey, at least I can spell aesthetic. Sicario 2 Score fits film perfectly. You might... but the excuse "fits the film" doesn't make it awesome music.

Warner/DC are completely at sea with regard to handling the look and sound of these films. They got the look and tone right with the Dark Knight Trilogy, completely messed up with Man of Steel (score and aesthetics), doubled down with BvS (just awful) and Suicide Squad (other than the score the whole film was abysmal), decided to go for a lighter tone with Wonder Woman (good film average score) and then decided to do a u-turn after the box office failure of Justice League (great score by Elfman). I really have very limited interest in superhero stuff, but interestingly I have the diametrically opposite view as yours here. I've never cared for the DARK KNIGHT trilogy scores (although I like the films), I absolutely adore MAN OF STEEL, I think BvS had a wonderful score once I programmed my own playlist of the material and I severely disliked Elfman's JUSTICE LEAGUE (although, once again, I managed to at least make a decent 30-minute playlist out the material). Haven't seen or heard WONDER WOMAN or SUICIDE SQUAD. Hiring Gudnadottir -- who comes from the Icelandic wave of post-rock, contemporary classical and dark, ambient minimalism -- is a small stroke of genius; something completely different than the more traditionally-minded Hollywood composers who have done this in the past.
